Just wanted to hear from people who might’ve been in my shoes at some point.

Over the past week I’ve called what feels like a hundred numbers—contractors, companies, union halls, posted in Facebook groups, pretty much everything I could think of trying to get my foot in the door. This is the first guy who’s told me straight up, “I’ll take you on, let’s meet.”
I’m leaning toward taking it because I just want the experience, but I’m curious if people in the trades think that commute is reasonable or if it’s too much. This is in the nyc-nj area so if anybody from there has any input.

21 y/o starting carpentry trade school – anyone in NYC looking for a carpenter/helper?

Hey everyone,
I’m 21 years old and based in NYC. I’m in the process of starting trade school for carpentry and I’m looking to get my foot in the door. I also recently camped outside the Carpenters Union back in may and got an application but i know it’s a waiting game.
I don’t have professional carpentry experience yet, but I’m very hands-on, learn quickly, and I’m not afraid of hard work. I’m looking for an opportunity as a carpenter’s helper or laborer where I can learn the trade from someone with experience.
I’m reliable, eager to learn, and willing to start at the bottom. If anyone in the New York City area is looking for an extra set of hands or knows of someone hiring helpers, I’d really appreciate it if you could point me in the right direction.
