Do companies actually value AI-assisted projects? What should I build in my 2nd year to get internships?
Hi everyone,
I just completed my first year of engineering and maintained a decent CGPA. My goal is to get an internship in my second year. I don't care too much about the company initially—I mainly want industry experience and to learn.
One thing I've noticed is that many of my friends are building projects using AI tools like ChatGPT and Cursor. A lot of the work seems to be copy-pasting code and making small changes.
This made me wonder:
Do recruiters actually care if a project was built with AI assistance, or do they mainly care that you understand and can explain it?
When interviewing interns, how do companies distinguish between someone who genuinely understands their project and someone who mostly relied on AI?
What kinds of projects would you recommend for a second-year CS student that genuinely improve skills and stand out on a resume?
