DIYer tool collection and organization

I want to share my tool collection and organization as a DIYer. I primarily use these tools to work on my 2002 Porsche Boxster S. I do all the work myself and have been collecting these tools as I need them or find them.

I bought the Japanese and Pittsburgh/Icon stuff new. Everything else I bought at thrift stores for a few bucks each. I think I paid $12 for two SK USA socket sets. A dollar for a snapon socket, etc. The Koken, Tone, Vessel Screw Drivers and pliers were purchased in Japan where they are very affordable. I think the Koken ratchet was less than $50.

My favorite tools are the Koken Flex Head, the old Adjustable wrench from a horseshoe manufacturing company, and my Tone wrenches.

Let me know what you think!

Anyone purposely shoot on small capacity cards?

I recently picked up a Nikon D850 after shooting film most of my adult life.

I’m finding myself shooting anything and everything because I can. But I end up with hundreds of burner shots.

I’m considering buying very small capacity cards to force myself to think about each shot like film.

Does anyone else do that? Am I being silly?

D850 with 80-200 F2.8 ED

Like the title says: Nikon D850 with a Nikon 80-200 F2.8 ED 2 ring lens that I picked up in Japan for $150.

It’s heavy AF but I like the sharpness and contrast.

I was told my Nikon 35-70 F2.8 was a bad match for my D850. I disagree

Nikon D850 shot on a Nikon 35-70 F2.8.

I think it looks fantastic. Very sharp. Good flare resistance. Lightweight. And very affordable! I bought this lens for $150. Autofocus isnt Z body fast but it’s no slouch for a screwdrive. I love it.

Unhappy with D850 😭

Hi All,

I recently asked for advice on deciding between a D850 or a Z8. I went with the D850 for the optical viewfinder and shutter clack but, man, what an out-dated camera otherwise. Lack of USB C and very slow wireless tethering are killing me.

Honestly, I should have done more research but kind of took the internets word on it. Thats on me.

There are aspects of the camera that did really impress me: the autofocus is blazing fast. Even with screw drive AF, the pictures it makes are beautiful, and the in-viewfinder grid and level are super cool!

I’m returning the D850 on Monday and going with a Z8. I’m going to miss handling a DSLR but the D850 is just too old for modern workflows and probably shouldnt be recommended to anyone using their camera in a professional or semi professional capacity.

Either way, I appreciate everyones input and do not at all blame the community.

Thoughts on a D850 vs Mirrorless

I have my heart set on a D850 for a number of reasons but I’m worried it’s not a smart purchase due to it’s age. B&H is offering 24 months 0% finance so I’m tempted to pull the trigger.

I love an optical viewfinder, the click of the shutter, the fact that it’s the last and best of it’s kind. I also already have 35-70 F2.8 and 80-200 F2.8 screwdrive AF lenses. I currently shoot on an F4 and F5 so I’m used to the size.

I’m worried that if I don’t buy a D850 soon I’ll miss the opportunity to buy new.

At the same time the camera is 10 years old and has a two generations old image processor.

I mainly plan on using it for vacation and personal landscape work. I’m a professional commercial director of photography and, because I’m exposed to their results, I prefer using flagship cameras. I don’t plan on buying Z mount lenses anytime soon.

I’m not going to use it for video at all.

Do you think it’s a decent purchase or should I go mirrorless?

Update: I bought a D850 lol
