Baby portraits - help with settings!

So I'm about to have a baby in the house and I'd really like to take some decent portraits. I expect a wriggling baby / excited relatives will be harder to shoot so I'd really appreciate some help on what settings would be best to take these photos. I have the kit lens and the 7artisans 50mm f1.8 - I love the 7artisans for portraits, but I find that it's a bit slow and I have to really step back quite a bit to take a decently composed shot. I'm not too experienced with the kit lens for portrait photography either. Would appreciate any tips!! (portrait of my furry baby taken with the 7artisans lens for attention)
