New Honda owner here.

Hey guys! I just bought my first Honda with the help of my uncle. It’s a 2006 EX L Accord. Overall the car seems in great shape. The engine was completely covered in oil so I dunno if the oil spray guys went overboard or there’s a leaky gasket somewhere. Ran fine when I bought it but it has an exhaust leak. So I got a shop to put a whole new exhaust on it and they put some cheap aftermarket on it. I was driving it back from the shop and the rpm’s just dropped out of nowhere but then went back up like the car was gonna shut down but it didn’t. It did this very quickly during a light acceleration in 3 gear I believe. It almost felt like it tripped or something. After it did that the engine light came on. I took it back to the mechanics and they said nothing was wrong and to keep driving it but they told me they got a PERMANENT DTC AND TEMPORARY DTC code P2646 (Rocker ARM oil control valve (A) stuck ON/OFF). They made the engine light go away and I drove it home. The next day I drove it on the highway and I lost acceleration getting up to highway speeds and the engine light came on. I could not accelerate and pulled over. When I turned it off and started it back up the engine light was still on but I could drive it. The internet told me this is called limp mode. But why? I took it to another mechanic and they read the same code but couldn’t find anything wrong. I took it for a drive today and got the rpm’s up real high, and nothing went wrong. But I’m stumped and would like to understand what could possibly be going on. If anyone out there knows their stuff I’m all ears.
