Gaurav’s Performance Deserves More appreciation
The narrative that Gaurav is “not performing,” is “reluctant,” or doesn’t take Khatron Ke Khiladi seriously is honestly nothing but forced hatred at this point.
Keeping my personal bias aside and looking ONLY at his performance, the man has consistently given his 100% in almost every stunt. In fact, he has performed the most number of stunts so far, and he has completed every stunt he has undertaken.
In Week 1, during the helicopter stunt, yes, he was slower than the others and there was some miscommunication. But it was literally his first stunt, and he was dealing with a genuine fear of heights something he has spoken about even before the show. Despite that, he completed it. Then came the fire stunt, where he had to confront another genuine fear, and he completed that too.
Then came the pain auction, where contestants were hit with bullet pellets. The show itself showed the contestants’ backs, and Gaurav was visibly one of the most affected. Despite having pellet marks and dealing with a shoulder/back injury, he still performed well. And in the elimination stunt that same week, he absolutely nailed it. While Shagun couldn’t even start the stunt, Gaurav completed a genuinely difficult height stunt despite the injuries from the previous task.
The following week, he performed the plane stunt with Jasmine while dealing with vertigo. He also went first, which meant Jasmine had the advantage of knowing when to stop based on his performance. Yet the difference between them was only around 10 seconds.
Then came the car stunt with Avinash. It was well coordinated, they moved quickly, and Gaurav once again did his part well and they won the task
Last week, he performed the truck team stunt exceptionally well. His speed while pushing towards the end to stick the flag was impressive. In the electric shock stunt, both his teammates, Ruhanika and Orry, aborted, while Gaurav was willing to continue and was visibly disappointed that he had to stop because of the team. He had already completed his part without aborting, and was resisting the electric shock
And then came the height stunt. Gaurav absolutely killed it. Avinash and Harsh had the advantage of performing in wind, where the flags were more reachable, while Vishal and Gaurav had to perform in the rain. Yet Gaurav maintained his balance and completed the stunt brilliantly.
So what exactly is this “Gaurav doesn’t perform” narrative based on?
Yes, he may have looked mentally lost or less active in some episodes. We know he has been going through an extremely difficult phase, and in a show like this, your mental state matters just as much as your physical strength. But whenever it has actually come down to performing, he has shown up.
And there are genuine disadvantages that people conveniently ignore: he is turning 45 this year, he has dealt with injuries to his spine, back, elbow and feet, he has vertigo, and he has a major phobia of water. He is now about to face two water stunts, despite that fear. I’m genuinely curious to see how he performs because water is not just another stunt for him it is a very real fear.
Age, injuries, fears, physical disadvantages and his mental state are all factors. Yet despite everything, he has continued to perform and complete his stunts.
You don’t have to like Gaurav’s personality. You don’t have to support him. But if we are talking strictly about performance, pretending that he is doing the bare minimum is simply unfair.
He has performed. He has faced his fears. He has completed his stunts. And he has consistently given his best.
Give credit where it’s due.
