I made a free daily geography quiz app inspired by Geography Now, would love your feedback

I've always loved learning geography through actual visuals and real places, watching stuff like Geography Now for way too many hours. So I figured I'd try to bottle that same feeling into a quick daily quiz, and ended up building a little app for it.

It's called Atlas. Free iOS app, one new quiz a day, and the whole point was to keep it fast and enjoyable, something you can knock out in a minute or two. No ads, no subscriptions, no paywalls.

The quizzes lean into landscapes, locations and visual geography rather than dry text-heavy trivia. I honestly built it for myself and a couple of friends first, but figured people here might get a kick out of it too.

Not trying to spam the sub, genuinely just after feedback or ideas to make it better. If you're into Geography Now or you already do a daily geography thing, it's probably up your alley.

Learned the hard way that shipping is the easy part. My daily quiz app has fine installs but then retention just disappears!!

Been building Atlas out in the open, it's a daily geography quiz (10 questions a day, streaks, a leaderboard). Solo project, free, no ads, just a thing I do on the side.

Honestly the part nobody warned me about: getting it live and getting people to actually install it was the doable bit. Getting them to come back the next day is the real mountain. Most people do one quiz and then just... vanish. The funnel looks totally healthy right up until day 2 and then it drops off a cliff.

Stuff I'm gonna try next, roughly in this order:

  • push notifications, the classic "today's quiz is ready" nudge
  • a home screen widget that shows the day's first question (someone commented this yesterday and honestly it might be the best idea I've heard)
  • a share card so your score can get dumped into a group chat

Anyway, trying to do this transparently, so if you've ever shipped a daily-habit app I'd love to know which of these actually moved retention for you and which ones were just a wasted sprint. Happy to report back on whatever I test.

Link's in the comments if you wanna poke at it.

Fine downloads, brutal retention on my geography quiz app. What would you fix first, the funnel or the product?

Indie iOS dev here, solo. My app is Atlas, a daily geography quiz (10 questions a day, streaks, a friend leaderboard, themed weeks). It is free, no ads, no IAP, so this is a labour-of-love side project, not a revenue play yet.

Sharing the honest state because this is the one sub where that might actually be useful. Top of funnel is okay. People find it, the store page converts fine, they install. Then day 2 falls off a cliff. Most users do exactly one quiz and never open it again. Classic single-session death.

What I have NOT done yet, and am trying to prioritise:

  • A share card so a score can drop into a group chat. Hoping for a small viral loop but unsure it is worth the build.
  • An onboarding that sets the daily-habit expectation up front, since right now people treat it like a one-off trivia game.

My actual question for this crowd: when you have a habit app with a leaky day-2, do you pour effort into the retention mechanics first, or fix acquisition targeting so you at least attract people who want a daily thing? I keep flip-flopping.

I built a daily geography quiz app. People download it and never come back. Tell me what is wrong with it.

I am a designer living in Sydney and I build small iOS apps on the side.

A while back I shipped Atlas, a daily geography quiz. The idea was simple: 10 new questions every day, a streak to keep you honest, and a leaderboard so you can lose to your friends. Basically Wordle, but for geography.

Here is the honest part. The app works. It looks clean, the questions are solid, and the handful of people who play it every day seem to genuinely like it. But most people download it, do one quiz, and never open it again. Retention is my wall, not downloads.

So I am not really here to sell you anything. It is free, no ads, no subscription. I would honestly rather you tell me why you would stop using something like this. A few things I keep going back and forth on:

  • Is one quiz a day enough, or does it need more to feel sticky?
  • Do streaks actually motivate you, or do they just stress you out?
  • What would make you send it to a friend?

If you want to try it and be brutal, link is in the comments. If you would rather just give me your gut reaction to the concept, that is just as useful to me.

Thanks for reading. Happy to answer anything about the build too.
