[Spoilers PUBLISHED] Why did Roose Bolton wait so long to secure a trueborn heir?
I’ve always had a question about Roose Bolton. Before the War of the Five Kings, he never seemed particularly worried about being the last of his line or only having a single bastard heir.
Think about it: he only had Domeric, and then Ramsay took him out. Why didn’t Roose immediately remarry to produce new trueborn heirs and send Ramsay to the Wall? I get keeping Ramsay around for a little bit, but by the time the story starts, Ramsay is already a teenager/young adult. The gap between Domeric's death and the war is quite long—more than enough time for Roose to find a new wife and secure the Bolton lineage.
It just feels weird that a cold, calculating guy like Roose would risk his entire house going extinct just to keep a volatile bastard nearby. What am I missing here?
