Hi everyone!

I'm playing GSC at Kill Team (even my imperial guard teams are GSC themed), and exploring a bit of Necromunda with GSC too, but recently, a friend of mine suggested I should try 40k. I'm not a big fan of the "Your turn for 25mn, then my turn" thing, but why not give it a try?

The question now is: where to begin with?

When I started, I bought the famous combat patrol with 1 truck, 5 acolytes, 5 aberrants, 20 neophytes and 1 magus. Since then, I added more neophytes, various kill teams, cadian squads (for more kill teams and have all the miniatures with all weapons equipped)... meaning I have a basis for an alright army. And my friend suggests playing at 1,000 points.

And I have many questions!
- I love the brood brothers idea. But I read that the detachment is "meh". I'm not trying to be competitive, and it's okay to lose as long as it's fun, but is it still good enough to actually have fun? Or will I have to watch my guys being reduced to pulp turn 1, then cry while watching the other guy playing his turns?
- I love the "recon/motorized" units. Trucks full of guys, light tanks or transports like the hippogriff or the latest centaur half-track... but are they worth it? Compared to ridgerunners and goliaths? Since I never played 40k, I have no idea.
- It seems the acolytes are pretty important... and I only have 5 of them! Do I need more?
- I used my minis to do a lot of kitbashing. As long as I'm not in an official competition, is it okay to field neophytes and say "Okay, these are armed with this and that"? Because some of mines have 3 arms, pistols instead of rifles, and so on. I don't want my opponent to think I'm cheating because "Hey, actually this pistol was an auto rifle". Is it as important in 40K as it is in Necromunda/Kill Team? I'll play casual games, so I think it should be cool, but maybe experience proves that it can be annoying. Hence the question!

If I thought "No rules, just cool", I would go with a Brood Brother detachment with mostly neophytes and imperial guards,a few vehicles or heavy weapons, and cult agents like a kelermoprh, magus, and other characters. I like the idea of playing rebels ambushing my opponent. And not already bringing out the cult monsters.

So... any tips, hive mind? Shuld I wait for the new edition first before buying anything if I want to be cautious?

Thanks a lot!
