Genuine question for folks. In Australia, it’s tradition to place your hand on a bible when swearing in as a witness in court, for politicians taking office etc. More recently, we’ve seen persons of other faiths swearing in on their relevant holy book.

What is the point? Religion is notorious for offering ‘get out of jail/hell’ free clauses to its followers.

From the simple confession where you do penance for your sins, and are then clean apparently, to Islams Taqiyya/Kitman clauses nearly every religion has this ability to just lie, cheat and steal and then seek repentance from whichever Flying Spaghetti Monster you worship.

The only issue is, what could we replace it with? As we see in here, many people don’t even have any pride in the nation, so even swearing on the flag or something would be useless.

Barring basically just an acknowledgement that if you lie, you will be found in contempt and charged, and having serious consequences, I see no point in it. It’s symbolism that basically has no meaning. A legacy of our past that serves little to no purpose.

For those within no religious beliefs, I even see it as a thing that would embolden them to think lying is okay.

I’m sharing this as we see a LOT of comments in here of people talking about Zionists, and Zionism. I want to make it VERY clear that I’m no Israel hater, if anything, I empathise with them more, for, reasons.

But I do honestly believe that a lot of folks need to understand better what is happening in the USA right now. There are some religious whack jobs (seems almost every religion has them, some more than others, and all the Judaic ones seem to take the cake for producing psychotic doomsday religious ideologies, from the rapture to Jihads, and a shitload inbetween) influencing politics and Trump seems more than happy to court them, and, encourage them.

The opening line is an actual quote from a sitting US politician I have heard before. ‘If you could only have one country, Israel of the USA, which would you choose to survive, and yes, he did say read revelations and come back to me.’

The USA of old is not the same anymore, and people need to factor this in to discussions around our relationship with them, and, remember this when discussing any theocratic nation, yes, Palestine, Iran, etc as well.

Religion should not be in politics. And we need to stop getting politically involved in religious wars. Yes pro-Palestine crowd, that’s directed at you.

And before you bring up jet fighter parts to Israel, look into who else is in those our global defence supply chain agreements. We also supply weapons/materials to UAE, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, India, Phillipines, Turkey, USA, etc, so remember this when you call for us to stop supplying parts in a global supply chain agreement for one nation. Some of those are our regional allies, so you can’t even say we shouldn’t deal with them. These are “global” agreements.

Let these religious nuts fight it out on overseas shores. Not here. Not ever.

“Sorry business” for a five-year-old girl allegedly abducted during a house party at an Alice Springs town camp then murdered should not stop debate over the appalling conditions in those camps, the national commissioner for Indigenous children has declared.

Sue-Anne Hunter, who from July will have unprecedented powers to question bureaucracies and assess failed policies and programs affecting Indigenous children, has challenged claims that questions over the tragedy must wait, saying it was time for action.

Indigenous Australians Minister Malarndirri McCarthy on Friday said “now is not the time” to discuss town camps and related issues, but Ms Hunter says “sorry business does not silence the questions this loss demands we ask. It sharpens them”.

Ms Hunter, a Wurundjeri and Ngurai Illum Wurrung woman, acknowledges sorry business under way for the little girl known in death as Kumanjayi Little Baby at the request of her mother. Ms Hunter says the girl was loved and precious, and had a future that was hers by right.

“She must remain at the centre of this,” Ms Hunter writes in The Australian on Monday.

As police and prosecutors continue to prepare the case against Little Baby’s accused killer, 47-year-old Jefferson Lewis, Ms Hunter has called on the the nation to make change that puts the rights of children first.”

This commissioner is 100% on the money. From what I’ve seen, the child was in a totally inappropriate setting, and for the parents to not notice their child was missing for 2 hrs, well, that’s not a parent. In all my time as the father of a young child, either myself or the missus were always sober at parties when our son was there. One of us was always his little secret service detachment hovering around him to make sure he was okay.

We would have people tell us ‘Relax, there’s a lot of us, we can all keep an eye on him.’

No. As his father, I was the one responsible for his safety. Pretty much every time, I let the missus have a few drinks as I knew it was a time for her to relax as yes, mothers do get the most demand from small children.

The parents of this child need to be questioned and charged for child endangerment. The photos of that camp, and the reports of the conditions of the house she was abducted from are fucking appalling.

Any of you commenting from the luxury of big cities where you have absolutely no idea what it’s like in these remote camps, need to shut the fuck up.

These poor bastards, locked into living in these communities, with no employment prospects, humbugging being rampant, alcohol abuse, government money dependency and royalties if they are lucky to have a mine on their lands, yeah. Also, pay attention to the people in these videos. And then compare them to the loudest activists you see on media. Most of them wouldn’t know a single thing about what these folks deal with daily.

When Bob Katter speaks more sense than these big city activists about what these people need, it should tell you everything.
