I never thought I would be writing something like this.
Like many people, I’ve been working hard to find better opportunities and improve my situation. On April 16, 2026, I applied for what I believed was a legitimate remote job through Indeed. When I received a response, I felt hopeful — it seemed like things were finally moving in the right direction.
The company presented themselves professionally. The emails looked real. The interview process felt structured. There was even an onboarding portal. Nothing about it raised red flags at the time.
I remember thinking, “This might be it. This could really help me move forward.”
So I trusted the process.
I completed the onboarding like anyone would — providing my personal information, including my Social Security Number, banking details for direct deposit, and identification. It felt like a normal step toward starting a new job.
Then they told me I would receive funds to purchase work equipment. I was sent a check for $2,408.00. Again, everything seemed legitimate. I deposited it, believing I was preparing for my first day.
But everything changed on April 27, 2026.
That’s when my bank notified me that the check was fraudulent.
By the time I found out, it was already too late. My account had been impacted, drained, and left in a negative balance. The “company” disappeared completely — no responses, no contact, nothing.
That’s when it hit me:
I hadn’t been hired… I had been targeted.
What hurts the most isn’t just the financial loss — it’s the realization that I was taken advantage of while genuinely trying to better my life. I was doing everything right, and still ended up here.
Now I’m dealing with:
- A compromised bank account
- My personal and sensitive information exposed
- The stress and fear that comes with identity theft
- Financial instability I wasn’t prepared for
I’m actively working with my bank, filing reports, and doing everything I can to fix this. But the reality is, recovering from something like this takes time — and right now, I’m struggling to stay afloat.
I’m asking for help to get through this moment.
Your support will help me:
- Recover from the financial loss
- Cover essential living expenses while I stabilize
- Protect and rebuild my identity and credit
If you’ve taken the time to read this, thank you. Truly.
And if you’re able to help — even a small amount — it would mean more than I can put into words. If not, sharing this could make all the difference.
I’m determined to recover from this. I just need a little help getting there.
