I’m trying to better understand what families actually experience during the Medicare appeals process, especially after a denial, rehab/SNF coverage issue, or hospital discharge that felt unsafe.
For those who have been through it:
What type of appeal did you file?
Was it Original Medicare or Medicare Advantage?
What was the most confusing part of the process?
What helped your appeal the most — doctor notes, therapy notes, discharge paperwork, a case manager, SHIP, the QIO, or something else?
Is there anything you wish you had known before starting?
I’m not asking for private medical details, legal advice, or identifying information. I’m just hoping to learn from real caregiver/patient experiences so families can better understand what to expect.
