2014 F150 3.5. I've owned it since new. Never given me an issue over 12 years. The cam phaser rattle has been present for about 8 months, usually only when it sits for 2-3 days. I had left it for 3 weeks recently and it rattled for about 4-5 seconds straight.
Gotten the best quote I could, at $4800 Canadian to replace the phasers with the updated phasers, timing chain, tensioners and guides. This was the best price I could find.
Due to how much new trucks are, I don't really want to get a new one, as this one does everything I need it to. I make good money but I just can't fathom spending 80k on a new XLT.
I've booked it in to get this done, but wondering, is the right call? Some people say they just keep on driving it without issue, but I am not really wanting to deal with the engine losing timing and grenading itself (I don't know if this is common). Just sours me to pay such a big big for such a systemic problem with this engine. Thanks!
