laptop not finding any input devices
im having a difficult time diagnosing a laptop problem im helping someone with. they are trying to use a headset with their laptop for things such as discord to communicate with people, i have provided them with two seperate pairs of headphones with mics which i know work, i have tested them while connected to the laptop in question and sound is coming through on boht, however there is nothing coming through on the mic, checking the sound settings shows the laptop has no input devices for sound and even with the headphones connected they are not available as an input device. now the client does have a usb headset that works for both input and output, however the input is not ideal and a bit too quiet. what i know:
1 - the laptop audio jack works
2 - both headsets work
3 - laptop to headset audio works
4 - headset to laptop input does not work
5 - the laptop does not recognise any headsets as input devices
6 - the laptop does not have any input devices of its own
i am unsure if this is a case of the headsets not being compatible with the laptop as they are gaming headsets or if there is perhaps a software issue at play that i have not managed to diagnose, windows diagnostics tools are also unable to find anything wrong. any advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated
