Egg Donor Completed Another Cycle After We Matched
TL;DR: We matched with an egg donor in February and paid a holding fee to reserve her next cycles, but found out in May that she unexpectedly completed another cycle with a different clinic. We’re now worried about total cycle limits and are rushing to get contracts updated, which has added a lot of anxiety and uncertainty to the process.
Story: I’m mostly posting this to vent and try to release some of the anxiety and uncertainty.
My partner and I matched with our egg donor in the States in February, and we were over the moon to have found someone who felt like the ‘perfect fit’. We immediately paid the agency a holding fee to reserve her 5th and 6th cycles.
Fast forward to May, we were in the middle of doing some additional testing (I had a rare gene she hadn’t been tested for), and she was completing onboarding tests with our clinic, when we got a message from our agency saying she had unexpectedly done a 5th cycle with her local clinic. The agency said they were also caught off guard.
We immediately panicked because we know egg donors generally shouldn’t do more than 6 cycles, and we had assumed our holding fee meant she couldn’t match with other intended parent(s).
We’re now rushing to get contracts signed that explicitly state we have a hold on her 6th and 7th cycles, but it’s added a whole new level of uncertainty and nervousness to the process.
I know there probably isn’t much advice that can be given here, but any shared thoughts or similar experiences would really be appreciated. Or even if we’re being silly to expect anything less!
