One year ago today

One year ago, at 46, I suffered an ischemic stroke to my pons—something I never saw coming. It took out my entire right side. Devastating.

A week in the hospital, a month in rehab, and countless PT and OT sessions later (60+ ea), almost all function has returned. Some weakness remains—and that’s okay, we can work on that.

In the early days, every small movement was a victory: one toe wiggle, one finger twitch. A stroke is devastating and unplanned, but hard work, refusing to give up, and having a positive attitude will go a long way. I

Any function regained is worth the struggle. We may never be exactly who we were before—and that’s okay too.

To anyone on this journey: keep going. Every gain matters. You got this!
