170+ lbs down, Surgery Inbound AMA

A few months ago I posted here after losing 165+ lbs and said I’d update when I knew more about skin removal surgery.

Well, I’m now 170+ lbs down and IT’S HAPPENING!!

My surgery is officially scheduled for September 17th! I’ll be having a panniculectomy + Fleur-de-Lis abdominoplasty with mons repair and muscle repair. No lipo. I have an estimated 15 lbs or more that will be removed in skin and residual tissue.

When I made my original post, I had just gotten to the BMI requirement to start having surgical consults and had absolutely no idea what would happen from there. Now I’m less than a month away, which feels completely surreal.

HW: ~390–400 lbs
Starting Zep weight: 320 lbs
Current weight: ~217 lbs

At this point, surgery isn’t really about getting smaller. The loose abdominal skin causes hygiene issues, irritation, rashes and skin breakdown, and I’m SO ready to see what life is like without it.
I’m nervous because major surgery is, well, major surgery and it’s my first ever surgery, so double whammy, but mostly I’m incredibly excited.

A lot of people had questions about loose skin and surgery on my original post, so AMA again! I’m happy to talk about the consult process, insurance, costs, surgery prep (pre-op isn’t until 9/3 but I still have some idea of what’s ahead), GLP-1s, weight maintenance, or whatever else.

I’m not quite brave enough for public belly/loose-skin pictures yet, so clothed progress pics will have to do for now. 😂 But I’m documenting everything and plan to come back after surgery with the actual before/afters and recovery update.

Weekly weigh in / NSV thread

Welcome back for another edition of weekly weigh in / NSV THREAD! AUGUST 3/4

What were the results of your last weigh in? Did you lose, maintain or gain? Any nsv to share?

This month is so much better than last! I hit another new low, but i have my concert this weekend and will be eating late so im expecting to go back into the 161-163 range Monday. As a reminder:
My breast reduction goal is to hit 140 but ill call to see her when I get around 145 probably. I actually called today and her office is closed until September 18th so let’s see if I can get as close to 140 as I can by then. I don’t expect to get to 140 but the closer the better

Lbs left to lose….

I don't know who needs to hear this but...

Eat your fiber!

I was so focused on tracking my protein for a while that I didn't really look at my fiber intake enough. Once I started making it mandatory to get 30g a day or more (go slow if you're not used to it!!), the weight has been coming off so much faster. I went from losing 3-4lbs a month to 10-12lbs a month!
I feel fuller for longer and have been eating fewer calories!

Thanks for coming to my TED Talk ;) I know a lot of you already do this, but if you're in a plateau or struggling to lose, it might be worth looking at!

Half.

Top weight was 360+. F, 5’2”.
I’ve lost half my weight. (Rollercoaster, a lifetime’s worth!) The most recent 50ish # have been on tirz.

60# remain to goal. In six days, i become a cyborg; the first of three joint replacements at age 58. First up, a hip that has degraded so badly that leg is 2” shorter and has contributed to new scoliosis in adulthood (along with MS’s own contributions, ugh).

Would truly appreciate some good juju from y’all as the next 9-12 months are going to be full-on ‘embrace the suck’ time. May be a little more daunted by this than i am admitting to my in-person support system.

Appreciate you all!!!!

I Can Learn to SCUBA Dive!

I just realized that my asthma has improved so much that I feel safe to learn to SCUBA dive!

I've wanted to for decades, but my asthma was out of control.

Now? I've been on the medication for 6 months and I'm doing incredibly well. I haven't needed my rescue inhaler since I started, I can walk uphill without problems (even though I'm still 240 pounds), and I don't feel that terrible clenching feeling anymore.

I! Can! Dive!

My dad was a professional diver who was consulted by Jacques Cousteau, but I'd assumed that I'd never be able to follow in how footsteps (or flipper-flips?).

I am nearly in tears with this realization.

Dietitian Experience?

My doctor suggested I meet with a dietitian as part of my support team since starting Zeppy last week.

I met with one last week through Nourish and the vibes were just...off, for several reasons. But I also kind of feel like, as someone who has been on every diet under the Sun since I was a literal child, I know exactly what I need to be doing in order to be successful on this journey, and I don't really want to spend yet *more* money on another provider when I already have my PCP, therapist, and a PA that manages my ADHD meds, especially when my insurance won't cover the GLP-1 so I'm currently paying out of pocket.

I guess I'm just looking for folks who've had a positive experience with a dietitian and understanding what specifically it helped you with.

Thanks in advance!

I'm feeling a bit of a frustration that I feel like maybe only you all might get

I'm a year into Zepbound and have lost 73lbs, I'm 5ft tall and started Zep at 298lbs and am currently at 225lbs.  Now this is not me saying that I am not happy and grateful for it, I am!  Especially as a 44 year old woman who's hypothyroid, insulin resistant and in perimenopause... weightloss is so friggin hard

Where I get frustrated is when I talk about it in other groups that people act as if my life has been transformed and now I wear all new clothes, my life has changed drastically.  But the truth is that it hasn't changed in those sorts of ways.  I am still wearing all the same clothes, I am still feeling and 'am' really big.  Yes I can walk a bit more distance with a bit less trouble now but I am nowhere near the stamina of a normal weight person.  I am still morbidly obese and probably still have another 100lbs to go.  I am making great moderate progress but 73lbs on my small frame with my starting weight has and is not a transformative amount of weightloss and that's okay.  Sometimes I just feel a bit pressured to feel all these things about it that I am not feeling.  Anyways some progress pics so far!

Clothing Size Differences (starting to current)

What size clothing did you start in vs where are you at now in your journey? I know that can also be brand specific but I'm curious about the sizing this way.

I'm flirting with 60 pounds down. I started in a size 26 Torrid jean and 4/5x tops depending on the style. I'm currently wearing 22 torrid jeans. I also have a pair of 24s the wont go over my hips so again brand differences. I'm wearing 2/3x tops. I have the same work pants from Amazon in 5x to 3x, all fit with the tie able waist but the 5x are much looser.

It doesn’t seem possible

In December of ‘24 I had had enough. (We’ve all been there) I worked hard for three solid months, tracking, measuring and moving. Being in menopause certainly wasn’t helping. In March of ‘25 I was finally able to add tirz. When I see the before picture now, I almost don’t recognize myself. Today I’m down 122 pounds and officially 12 pounds under goal. So if you’re out there discouraged thinking it’s not possible- it definitely is- keep your eye on the prize!

Starting out

Sorry if I’ve selected the wrong flair!!

Hi all. I will likely be starting mounjaro in September. After two children and a catastrophic ankle injury, I have found myself at a much higher BMI than I should be.

I am hoping to pair mounjaro with a light workout regime (all my injury recovery will permit).

And I was hoping to hear some people’s experience in using mounjaro specifically! Thank you

60+ pounds down!

So this happened this morning… a mattress!!??!!!! 😱🤯

I still have a long ways to go, but I am more than halfway there! I am so grateful for Tirz.

Eek! 115 pounds lost in 18 months and it feel so good 🥰🥰🥰

I Can’t fully express how grateful I am to finally feel comfortable in my body again. I haven’t been this smaller size in 20 years and I’m so happy that I started taking this medication. The first two larger photos of me popped up on Facebook earlier this week and I could not believe how big I was without even realizing it. I never want to go back to that size and I’m so so proud of myself for putting in the hard work every day and taking this medication. 🎉🎉 The body dysmorphia struggle is still real and I now have a clothes shopping addiction but I’ll take that any day over being morbidly obese 🥹🥹

Has anyone gained their weight back after stopping?

I lost 45 pounds a year ago on Tirzepatide. I looked and felt amazing. I couldn't afford the injections anymore and I gained all of it back plus some. I'm 34 5'6 and currently I'm at 215 pounds., I was at 156. I really can't afford them and have no idea what to do.

Biggest NSV I've ever experienced thus far. ❤️🐎

I've always wanted a Mustang GT, since my late teens /early 20s years. But between raising kids and gaining allloot of weight between early teens to my 40s that was not a possibility AT ALL . My youngest kiddo will get her license in 5 months and after losing 240 lbs I can finally fit comfortably in a sports car vs a SUV /full size car, so my hubs bought me a Mustang GT Premium convertible yesterday!! I am over the moon ecstatic! Best NSV eveerrrrrr!! 🥹❤️🐎

8 months in

In 8 months, I've lost 66 pounds, and am officially halfway to my goal! 🎉 I *finally* bought new jeans today because I had been wearing the same ones from 300 pounds down to 225, and they were comically oversized. I went from a (snug) Torrid size 22 pants and size 2 shirt to a (comfortable) size 16 pants and size 0 shirt. I know I've got a long way to go and am not gonna take my foot off the gas now, but damn if I'm not proud of how far I've already come.

I've still got a fair amount to lose so I know this won't be my final clothing swap, but the jeans I got today are perfect, and even as I continue to lose, I'll be able to wear them for quite a while. Ideally, I'll be able to wear these until I get close to goal (the last pairs lasted me 75 pounds), and then do one final replacement when I get there.

I truly didn't think I'd ever see this size again (this is what I weighed in 2018), and I'm sure I'm preaching to the choir, but this med has truly changed my life.

So close…

I’ve been bouncing around between 304 & 302 the past 5/6 weeks. Getting frustrated, my NP is bumping me up to 10mg but I can’t get it until I finish my 7.5 mg pen because of the way my insurance is. Well, I’ve just kept going at 7.5mg until then trying to maintain until I get 10mg. I have finally dropped down to 300.10! I’m so close to getting in the 200s! Maybe I should stick at 7.5mg? So confused. But either way, progress today! 299 is close! I gained and hit 300 during the pandemic and just kept blowing up to 345 after that, so this feels great today.
