How's the hostel situation for incoming PhD scholars for this year. Can I expect to get 1 person room in any hostel if not the newer ones or should I come mentally prepared to stay in a pg outside campus (which will be very very bad experience for me).
I’ve noticed a lot of LinkedIn profiles where people who started their PhD in 2020 still haven’t finished, especially in CSA/ CDS departments. I wanted to get a realistic sense from current or former PhD scholars about the typical timeline for completing a PhD in these fields.
From the outside, many of these people seem exceptionally strong and already have impressive research output, so I’m curious what actually extends a PhD beyond 5 years. Is it usually publication pressure, advisor expectations, changing research directions, funding issues, internships/industry collaborations, or something else?
Would really appreciate honest perspectives on what the “normal” timeline looks like today and why even very capable researchers often take 6–7+ years.
