Gave an interview at CeNSE and their were few people approaching proffs personally, in order to get selected.

In my slot there were at least 3-4 people who approached proffs and talked about how they are aligned to the research they do. As far as I saw, they did it on the advice of those who were already doing a PhD at CeNSE. My only concern is that won't this give them any sort of advantage over those people who just gave the interview and went away without approaching the proffs? In that case, it is unfair.

Admission fees (urgent)

I got an M.Tech offer letter through CFTI mode, and today is the last date for fee payment.

During the admission process, after selecting “Yes” for hostel facility, it is asking me to pay an additional hostel fee of around ₹55,000 along with the admission fees.

I wanted to ask:

  1. Is it compulsory to pay the hostel fee right now along with the admission fee?

  2. If I pay the hostel fee now, will hostel allotment be confirmed immediately?

  3. Is there an option to pay the hostel fee later after reporting/joining?

Would be really helpful if any current student or recent admit could clarify this. Thanks!

BSc Physics IISc vs IIT Delhi EE /IIT Roorkee CSE

Im a physics enthusiast and just got done with my Jee adv and am expecting a rank around 500 . I have a particular interest in theoretical physics and am torn between Bsc Physics IISc vs IIT Delhi EE/IIT Roorkee CSE.

I'm confused as I want to pursue something in academia but I'm unsure of the opportunities and facilities that I might have at either place . Would my dream still be possible from IIT EE ?

Any help would be highly appreciated.

How much time to wait???

I accepted the offer on the 19th (Round 2) around 11 PM through COAP, but it’s still showing like this on the IISc website. I haven’t made any payment anywhere yet. Is this normal? Is everyone facing the same issue?

IISc medical form confusion regarding vaccines and boosters

The portal form mentions many vaccines, but the mail from IISc mentions only a few boosters. I only have my COVID certificate and no childhood vaccine records.

Which one should i actually follow—the portal form or the mail?

How to build a strong math & programming background for IISc MTech CDS/AI from a biology background?

Hi everyone,

I’ve been looking into the MTech (CDS) or MTech(AI) at IISc, since I’m interested in moving towards computational biology / AI/ML in healthcare and medicine.

I’m trying to understand how to meet the “strong math and programming background” expectation mentioned on the program page of both these programs, coming from a bio background.

Questions:

  1. How is this background actually evaluated? how would i demonstrate it both formally and practically?
    • Do I need formal credentials (like a minor/online degree from IIT/BITS or distance education like IGNOU), or
    • can NPTEL courses + solid projects be enough to demonstrate it both formally and practically?
  2. What level of math and programming should one realistically reach by the end of undergrad to be competitive?

GATE: Now, From what I’ve explored so far, CDS seems like a better fit for my interests, but I’ll understand this more clearly as I progress through my undergrad. MTech AI could also turn out to be a better fit.

  • MTech(CDS): accepts GATE BT since it will be a major subject, GATE BT seems manageable.
  • MTech(AI): GATE DA/CS, Currently, I can code basic ML models like KNN and GUI (PyQT) apps using Python, So i beleive those parts of the syllabus ill manage, biggest hurdle for these subject would be math and rest of the theory, i wil have to chose DA or CS and prep form 1st yr itself to even be competitive.
  • What is the most standard / popular way aspirants study for GATE DA/CS?

Context:

I’m about to start my undergrad and will likely be in a biology/biotech-related program (still deciding between a few options, and the recent RE-NEET situation has also influenced things). If I need to take additional courses, I’d want to start early so I can complete them in time for admissions at the end of 4th yr, also dont want to end up choosing subjects / courses that will simply make me ineligible, add to the difficulty for the prep.

Regarding IISc Medical certificate

Is the medical certificate provided in the forms should be submitted in the period mentioned between 1 June to 10th June or at the time of physical reporting( as mentioned in the document header)

There are too many tests mentioned and i will be travelling out of town this week and the next so i might not be able to get all the tests done.

Need some information

I am expecting to join IISc this year. I was going through the IIT Ropar case. Do incidents of these sort happen in IISc as well? Any insider info would be helpful.

Edit: People aren’t aware of the case. It has been wiped off the internet, but you can still find traces of it. A prof by the name Lakhan Baisla was involved in a relationship with his PhD student. Things got ugly and violent. This student accused him of using her se*ually and abusing his position. That’s the gist. So I wanna know if it happens in IISc as well or ever happened.

Alumini or seniors

Can we consider doing abroad for Masters or PHD, also please suggest some good universities and countries for the same considering if I do not have to spend more money like getting scholarship or fee waiver. If I complete my bachelor's in India in not top institutes but like normal instituted like nit raipur material science or may be some state govt college or gfti. I am not sure about iisers like I would definitely like to consider but there's not much placement support there like for example if my mind change for something different like mba or pvt companies then I can have more options. Please give me some advice or throw some light🌸

Hey can a monk study at IISc banglore?

I am considering becoming a Buddhist monk soon, I wanted to wait till I complete my masters but due to some circumstances I can't wait much. Is there any rule which limits dressing options? I would have to wear a robe. My monastery is okay with me continuing my degree.

Got waitlisted for IPC PhD 2026

I gave my interview for a PhD position in the Inorganic and Physical Chemistry department a week ago. Today they released a provisional list of selected candidates and I was among two people in the waitlist. I applied under the Theoretical Chemistry preference, and four people were offered the seat with two in the waitlist. Is there any chance of conversion into an offer?

Doubt regarding IISc MTech QT

So, im preparing for GATE 2027, i wanted to join IISc MTech QT program, im preparing for GATE XE, and from the CUTOFF in the IISc website, for QT its is GATE score of 700 for XE for QT, so my doubt is, does getting a score of 700 guarantee an interview call and admission if i score well in interview? I mean do they have any preference for core GATE papers in case if there are lot of applicants? or will i have to score higher than 700 in XE?

TL DR: how many marks/GATE score i need in GATE XE to get into IISc MTech QT?
