A tale of three CZs.
Awhile back I posted about my CZ Shadow 2 carry and my P09. Now that my SP-01 is back from jail (aka LGS) after nearly 2months, it’s range time.
P09 and S2C were bought brand new and the sp-01 is second hand.
Setup:
P09 is fully cajunized by me, has their trigger and race hammer along with a Vortex enclosed optic (I wasn’t to say it’s the Venom). This is my daily carry when I am not at work and sits in a Vedder holster. At this point I have roughly 1-1.5k rounds through it of that approximately 100 are underwood ammo 68gr +p that I use as my Self Defense ammo. Mags are proprietary and not interchangeable.
S2C is fully stock with an osight rechargeable enclosed optic (Osight SE?) and has a tlr-1 I plan to use interchangeably between it and the SP-01 in my Phlster Enigma light bearing. Round count is just north of 1.2k of WWB and maybe 30 rounds of the +p.
SP-01 I’m not sure exactly what is in it but it appears to be also fully cajunized with a single action only set up. Has what I assume are Lok grips that are a hell fusion between a porcupine and a hellrazprs face. Round count is unknown but by me maybe 2-300 WWB. This one I had sent out to be QPQ finished by AB prototype in Tennessee (highly recommend) as its prior owner must have been pigpen or some other disgusting individual with the amount of body schmue I found on the poor thing. Even some light rust.
Of the three, the p09 and the SP-01 feel right for me. The SP-01 in particular feels like it was made for my hand. I joke that guns are more accurate than me, but the sp01 makes me feel like I can’t miss and if I do, it was my error.
The S2C feels nice too, but definitely has more hot spots in the hand for me. The webbing between thumb and forefinger for instance where the bevertail rests.
So for me: SP-01 >/= P09 > S2C
I do not like the single action only trigger. It is very mushy but breaks at 3.5ish lbs but the Cajun trigger and race hammer in my p09 breaks at that but is much more defined and crisp.
The S2C is still breaking in. When I first got it, it felt like a WW2 Mosin-Nagant rifle with how gritty, creaky and creepy it was. Started to smooth out at 500ish and then is mostly alright at 1k but not what I expected from CZ. I may end up putting in a Cajun hammer to shorten up the creep in SA but I’m going to wait for 2k round count to see if that helps it.
The Vortex sight is alright, I was having a weird situation where the zero shifted left to right randomly. Come to find out it was JUST loose enough to wriggle around when I put it in my center console. Bit of locktite and torque to spec and it seems to have fixed that.
The Osight so far has been nice but my only beef with it is the light sensing seems to be a bit sensitive indoors and is dimmed too much imo.
All this to say, now that I’m about 3-4k into these pistols for just the guns, if all you want is to carry, get a P09. The S2C is nice, but I would be mad after needing to use it and the police take it as evidence.
