Help me understand why my vehicle credit company sent me a check?

So for some context I was in a no fault accident 2 months ago, my vehicle was completely totaled. The insurance for the person at fault completely paid off my remaining vehicle loan of 21k even though my vehicle was only worth around 20k, they then sent me an additional check for 7k, which is great that was used as a down payment for my new car! The insurance company assured me that was correct and I happily deposited that check!

Now the company I financed through for my totaled vehicle sent me a $4,000 check with no info other than “refund of overpayment”. Again this is great, but why would I receive this check? I’m very grateful, but just confused and want to make sure this is correct before depositing the money.
