Question regarding notice period in India and how hiring works

Hi All,

I am currently working in the US , with a US based firm which has offices in India. I work as a Software Engineer and have around 6.5 YOE (3 in india , 3 in US) (and a MS CS). In my 3 years in india , i never switched so don’t know the notice period situation.

Now the team is extremely toxic (like literally “can you do this in the next hour” , “can this be done in a day” etc) , i bear that here since i have the incentive that i earn in USD and can’t just outright leave them due to visa issues. The current situation is that my work authorization ends in a month here.

They are offering me an intra company transfer back to India with the same title and atrociously bad pay(around 15LPA and at the same title in india freshers plus 1 yoe join) . I make 120K here in LCOL. Basically I am extremely overqualified in india for the title. Now i have never switched in india so i am not sure how notice period’s are taken into account.

I have 2 options :

\- Take this offer , its bad wlb and bad pay and look around but then i will be locked into 60-90 days of notice period.

\- Bail on this offer , that would make me immediately available and i would not be in the notice period trap.

I feel I am capable enough of getting a better offer , yeah it would be a bit scary to search without a job in hand but the experience and my past work should outrun that. Any insights and guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks

Need Insights regarding Job search in India in Tech

Hi All,

My question is aimed at folks who returned to India without a job. I know these questions are subjective but wanted to get s perspective

  1. How long did it take you ?

  2. When it came to salary expectations, how did you handle that ? i see recruiters asking for previous ctc and that would be in dollars

My company is giving me a transfer back home but the pay for the amount of work and toxicity is atrocious (the offer is 15 lpa and not even remote , i would have to relocate to a tier 1 city) and I am considering not to take the offer and search. Currently i make 120k USD here in a LCOL state

The reason I am considering not taking it is because its the same title as i have here and at that title in India i am overqualified for the role(in india at the same role freshers+2yoe join , let that sink in) .

The only thing that is stopping me to not consider it sometimes is the thought that “finding a job without a job in india is extremely difficult “ , i am not sure how relevant this is today but it surely was before i came for masters.

I am 29 , have a MS CS with around 6 YOE(3 back home and 3 here in the US)

Any insights/guidance would be really appreciated 🙏

This is kind of unfathomable and need some guidance

Out of all attempts at H1b , my company gave me an intracompany transfer to India and the offer is just outright humiliating . No title bump , No pay bump. I am angry and at loss of words and at the same time i feel so lost at this point.

The offer they gave me was the same position as I am in the US. But this title is more prestigious in the US than in India. Plus the pay is 17LPA and in a tier1 city , I have 3 years of US experience and 3 years of India Experience plus a MS in CS.

Now at the same title and pay freshers+2 YOE folks join in India. So basically if i move back there is no distinction between me and someone who has 0 US experience or even a MS.

Currently the environment is just toxic (my manager is ex-cognizant so you can imagine plus all the leads inder him are toxic as well) and i hate the management for what they did in the last 3 years . I was just with them coz they were sponsoring my h1.

I am at my wits end at this point and filled with so much anger and rage. The other option I have is to pursue another MS/PhD and look for a job , in this case I would be burning my savings with no income for atleast 6 months. Another option is to return to india without a job and do the canada PR process by learning french(this i am not sure i can do with this job considering how toxic and shitty wlb i would have).

The only concerns I have are below and i would be grateful if people who returned can answer :

  1. If i come to India without a job , then how is that perceived ? and how long did it take you plus when it came to salary would recruiters lowball you ??
  2. Is a resume gap still perceived as a bad thing ?
  3. Any advices/tips ?

I am in tech and work as a Software engineer , do have a bit of ML/AI experience. I have 6.5 Years of work experience

Thanks for reading it till here . I appreciate it

Hi All,

I was filling the form to get my ECA done via WES for express entry. There’s a box that asks “Diploma/Certificate Name” , There should one select the option “Bachelor of Science/Master of Science” ?

My highest level of education is Master of Science in Computer Science. Its from a US University.

I would appreciate if someone could help me on this.

Query regarding ECA

Hi All,

I have a Masters Degree in CS from a US Institution and a Bachelor’s degree in CS from my home country. So for getting the ECA done via WES do i also need to care about my bachelors degree? or just care about my MS degree documents like sending transcripts to WES via parchment.

Thanks

  1. Will the duration of status rule if rolled out later in the year affect students who are already enrolled ?

  2. Does doing cpt (or as its called day1 cpt) means overstaying your F1 visa? I ask this as i don’t want to hamper my future opportunities in other countries if i get or if i apply for any other country visa.

  3. If at all one drops out midway (either MS or Phd) is there any kind of grace period one gets to leave ? (on stem opt its 60 days but what about here ?)

  4. Can i do part time or internship during day1cpt ?

Hi,

I am currently on my last year of stem opt that expires in. a month.

I plan to pursue a DBA further and I will be enrolling in a day1cpt university. Now lets say due to some circumstances I drop out then will I have to depart the US immediately or will i get a 15-30 day grace period to leave (ofcourse I will be informing my dso before dropping out). I am aware that when stem opt ends we get 60 days but on cpt I am confused that will i have to leave immediately or will i get some days to leave.

Thanks

I have been applying to jobs actively on linkedin for the past 2-3 weeks. I see a massive influx of “AI Engineer” roles , and even for many SWE roles it has so much of AI Engineer aspects.

Hi All,

Is there anyone who was pursuing day1cpt and was able to find an employer that accepts it ? or switched jobs while on day1 cpt ??

I have been hearing that its hard to get something on day1cpt but want to know how realistic and true is this.

Any insights would be appreciated

Hi All,

What are some companies that accept students that are pursuing day1 cpt ? I am looking for roles in tech such as SDE , ML/AI Engineer.

If anyone was in a similar position, I would want to know their experience and how to deal with such a situation.

Thanks
