What should my mum do with her inheritance?
First time poster here so hope this is okay:
My dad very tragically passed away very suddenly December last year, it’s obviously been a horrible time for my whole family, especially for my mum.
With this, my dads work paid out a generous death in service meaning now that everything has been sorted, my mum has inherited a large sum of money, I don’t know an exact amount but I think it’s over £500k at least.
She’s reluctant to seek financial advise as she doesn’t feel up to doing anything like that due to her being very anxious with life at the moment which is totally understandable but I’ve already explained to her that she needs to start splitting the money into different accounts as soon as possible not only for protection, but also to get that money working for her. For extra context she’s also retired herself.
I know the key points immediately would be splitting the money and maxing out her available ISAs but otherwise I don’t know how to guide her along but I imagine it’s not as simple as just transferring 100k to each bank without some pushback.
Any advice not only for me as her son but also how I can gently push her in the right direction would be really helpful.
