If I buy a physical hardback cover version of a book do I really need to buy it AGAIN at full price to get access to it on Kindle? While slightly less expensive, the kindle copy is still 80-90% of the hardback price. Is there something I'm missing? There are a dozen books I'd like to purchase digitally and physically but having to pay double the price I end up not purchasing either.

• Are you open to refurbs/used? No, has to be new.
• How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? It needs to be reliable and long-lasting, preferably with a good enough battery. There is no usecase for high performance requirements.
• How important is weight and thinness to you? It is definitely a plus.
• Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. N/A but would rather not have a smaller than average screen.
• Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. No games or editing, just regular browsing and file storage.
• If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? No gaming usecases.
• Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Build quality and reliability is the most important factor. All the others are nice-to-haves.
• Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. My mother wants a personal laptop to use and store important files - she had been using a work-issued computer but she'll be retiring but still have the need to store these important files which by law can't be uploaded to any servers. So the most important factor is quality and reliabilty, something that will last many years without issue. After that comes the user experience, which is important for comfort as she might use it for browing, watching movies, taking on trips and etc.
