So long and thanks for

Well, I finally did it. I deleted my wifi network from my kindles, put them all in airplane mode, then went online and removed all my send to kindle books from my account. I removed all the books downloaded from Amazon from each kindle, then side loaded all my unread books in my library to my Kindles in the format that best displayed on each kindle. No more book cover problems for me. I wasn't using whisper sync much, so I really had no use for any connection to Amazon with my Kindles. My library got large enough to prefer Calibre for management, so to paraphrase Douglas Adams: so long Amazon and thanks for all the ebooks.

Is this accurate? How can they remove it without internet connection? Some kind of timer?

Another comparison post from a lazy eye mortal.

I recently bought the colorsoft (signature) and paperwhite.

Picture one- 0% light on in a well lit room.
Picture two- 5% light on in a well lit room.
Picture three- 14% light on in a well lit room.
Picture four- 0% light on under a lamp.
Picture five and six- near a window at different times. The sun wasn’t very strong today.
Picture seven- just a picture of the one I kept.
The darker one is the colorsoft.

I bought the colorsoft first knowing how einks work. I knew the color would be darker. However, after a few days, I felt dizzy and got a headache after reading.

I bought the paperwhite and the problem went away. I wanted to love the colorsoft and I didn’t mind bumping the light up on it but I think the text is a little blurry and my eyes hurt!! I love the color but I can’t keep it. So now, I’ll be reading comics on my iPad and the paperwhite will be for text. I was also lucky to get a paperwhite with ads that doesn’t show ads!?! Pink isn’t my favorite color but this color is so pretty.

Just wanted to throw in my two cents to the comparison. I have a squint and I wear spectacles. But my vision is a 10 on 10. Just wanted to document my experience as someone with a lazy eye.

PS- ignore my couch. I know it’s dirty. We’re moving so I’m waiting to clean it once we settle down.

Feel free to ask me any questions.

Cats think the floor stand is for THEIR comfort, not mine...

Current POV.

My cats honestly might love my Kindle floor stand even more than I do. As soon as I start settling in with it, they're all trying to lay on my chest and squeeze under the Kindle. These two don't even get along normally! 😂 Hippo (my little old lady on the left) especially loves to ponder and nose the Forbidden Orb (my discoball dustplug charm) while she's here. The void is Stormy.

(Idk why the screen photographed so yellow, it's a normal color irl I swear.)

I think I want a kindle?

Hi! I've been running through this sub for a bit reading everyone's thoughts on e-readers and Kindles specifically. I'm leaning more toward the Kindle route as I'm assuming there are more accessories/support/options out there than the other e-reader options.

I've only just gotten back into reading in the past few months and have been using physical books, but I want an e-reader to save space & money on purchasing books. I used to be a big Nook person- but after 10 years of taking not using it b/c of schooling and career building, that thing is long gone.

I'm not too picky about customization; I just want to read. I currently have an iPad that I sometimes read on but I've heard the Kindle is much better on the eyes (which I need). I'm planning to get Kindle Unlimited, but I'm trying to hold off until the next prime days to get it with the 3 months free KU....

Do you guys think it's worth it to wait for a sale again, or should I just get it?

[Rant] by [Chuck Palahniuk]

Rereading this after 15+ years. It’s always interesting how perspectives change with age. Can’t wait to see how I’ll take in this one in now.

Getting a kindle made me addicted to reading

I finished the two books of the will of the many series now Im reading the green bone saga and I cant put these books down, so Im spending most of my free time reading. My other hobby was gaming, but it got too expensive and these books occupy my attention more and provide greater escape for me than playing videogames.

I bought the latest paperwhite and I love that I dont have to bother with lamps when reading at night like when reading physical books and that its has dark mode and blue light filter to turn on at nights.

Kindle Paperwhite - is it worth it?

I currently have a Kindle 10th Generation 2019 (J9G29R) - I’m looking to either just buy a new case for it to freshen it up a bit and give it a new look (kindle case recommendations are very welcome!)

Or, do I wait and buy a new kindle paperwhite/colour?

Young and Blind but not blind?

My husband just saw my font size and made fun of me for being a grandma. Lol. My font size is 7 and I keep it a little bold so that when it’s mounted up, I can read it from far. I like to eat and read and even when I’m holding it, it’s the same font. I read physical books too. I have no eye problems but it’s just so nice to have a big font. lol. Are you the same? What’s your font size?

Should I Jailbreak my Kindle?

My father gave me a Kindle last Tuesday, meaning I've had it for exactly a week. I wanted to jailbreak it, but what if the Kindle malfunctions and it's. With jailbreaking, it will no longer be under warranty. So, what do I do? I really want to customize my Kindle the way I want, but I'm unsure what to do.

Send blogs and RSS feeds to your Kindle

I built a tool that lets you subscribe to a blog, newsletter or RSS feed and send it to your kindle. Its been really helpful in replacing my scrolling habit with reading. I would reach for my phone first thing in the morning to impulsively "check the news", but now I just open up my kindle and read a couple articles before getting out of bed.

Actually, first posted about this tool a couple months back and got lots of good feedback: https://www.reddit.com/r/kindlejailbreak/comments/1rvrxew/send_rss_feed_or_blogs_automatically_to_your/

The app was getting really bloated so I redesigned it. You can do things like:

- change the order of how articles are delivered each day
- send a random article from your favorite feeds. I use this to get a random paul graham essay each morning
- see popular feeds others are subscribing to

If anyone wants to give it a try here's the link:

My cozy Kindle setup

I love this Kindle aesthetic so much. I used my old copy of Gerald's Game as a back cover for my Kindle. Don't worry, it's an old copy and it's already really beat up! Do you guys do this too?

Temptations are injurious to the human pocket.

So…….. I wanted to wait for a sale but guess what? It was too much waiting. So I bought a colorsoft. Coming from a basic 10th gen and I love that this has a warm light! Not a case person so I put a skin on it.

Buying/Borrowing Digital Books When You Own Physical Copies?

Hi! So last year, I finally took the plunge and got a Matcha Kindle Basic for my birthday and really got into reading digitally. The only time I would ever do so was when I was reading fanfiction on an EPUB reader app, but I always bought physical books (previously hardcovers exclusively until prices increased so then it was paperbacks).

I've been going through all of my books and have been feeling a bit overwhelmed with the amount that I own. So, I started borrowing books on Libby and KU to avoid buying more and, eventually, ended up borrowing digital copies of the books I already own. I feel bad about leaving my physical books in boxes or on my shelves to leave unread, but reading the digital versions is so much easier on my physical health specifically.

I write a lot, both on my laptop and in notebooks, and this will increase as I attend school this fall. Over the years, my wrists and fingers have begun to ache and shake when I've done anything for a long period of time and I'm almost 30, which leads to me wearing wrist braces. Reading on a kindle eases the burden of holding a heavy book (especially hardcovers) for hours and allows me to rest comfortably while doing so instead of struggling to find a comfortable position to hold the book in and potentially making the pain worse.

I don't want to get rid of my physical books due to the fact that the books we buy on kindle don't actually belong to us because of licensing and Amazon's ability to remove any book at any time. But I definitely am finding myself buying physical copies less and less.

Is this something anyone else can relate to or is it just me?

Post Jailbreak Setup

Hi guys! Since there's a new jailbreak release for the kindle (Vera), I just wanna share my current setup, especially for those who are new to jailbreaking and don't know what to add after the jailbreak process.

My Current Plugins:
• Toggle Ads – Removes the Amazon ads/lockscreen advertisements
• KOReader – Gives more control over the reading UI, gestures, customization, and reading experience
• Simple UI – Further tweaks and simplifies the Kindle interface for a cleaner look.
• HID Passthrough – Allows Bluetooth input devices such as controllers and keyboards to act as page turners. Goodbye to clip-on page turners!
• BT Manager – Manages connected Bluetooth input devices and lets me customize their button/key mappings.
• FileBrowser – For wireless file transfers, allows me to send books/files from my phone or PC without constantly plugging in a cable.

I wanted to keep my setup simple, focused on efficient file transferring, better controls, and UI customization, only adding plugins that I actually find useful.

Feel free to ask me questions, and please suggest some fun plugins to use. Thank you!

Would I benefit from Kindle PW?

I’m debating on buying a kindle paperwhite. I am currently reading on my iPad using KU and getting my books through Libby.

I’ve heard good things about paperwhites, but not sure I can justify the price, I’ll need to think about it for a while before I purchase.

On my iPad 7th Gen, I get about 2-3 hours before needing to charge it because of reading. Which is really annoying when you’re just getting to a reallly good part of the book.

The battery lasting up to 12 WEEKS is honestly really appealing!

And the fact that the iPad is huge. While Kindle is portable (so I’ve heard!) And I’m constantly distracted on my phone.

Just a question - Would anyone recommend buying used from Amazon? I know it lowers the price a little bit (not by a lot though) and is it the same as a new PW? I’d like to hear thoughts on it!
