The Perks of Reading a 1500+-Page Book on Kindle. The Count of Monte Cristo.

I finally decided to start reading The Count of Monte Cristo. The story itself is spectacular and I was gripped from the first chapter. It’s amazing to be able to enjoy a classic so much, but being that I’m reading the unabridged version (1500+ pages), I don’t think I would be enjoying this book as much as I am if it weren’t for my beautiful Kindle.

The ability to easily navigate through the book and just being able to hold in your hands what would normally be a behemoth is such an enormous plus. I’ll be reading the whole Kingsbridge saga by Ken Follett next and I know my wrists will thank me.

I own 4 kindles, and I love them all.

Colorsoft SE, Paperwhite SE, Voyage, and Oasis. I use them all but currently use the Oasis the most—it has cellular, so I take it with me most of the time.

Tell me what models you have!

Kindle unlimited - curious

Hi everyone,
I am looking to cut back on expenses as much as possible - no explanation needed we all know how things are 😒😕
Has anyone canceled their kindle unlimited? I use Libby so I’m assuming I’ll be fine, but I wanted input from someone who has done it.

Kindle case or sleeve ?

I love my kindle a lot. I've had it for a couple of weeks and can't seem to leave it. I'm traveling a lot and i don't want to chip or scratch it in any way.

-> i'm asking for your recommendation on keeping it safe but maintaining its lightweight. What are some useful things i can look for in either a case or a sleeve? Just overall any recommendation based on your experience.

I own a basic Amazon Kindle 11th generation.

Also, since I'm a new user, any and all random/unrelated tips and hacks for a better experience are welcome.

Thank you!

The joy of finding a new series

Picked up the first Splinter Cell book about a week and a half ago and now I’m already on book three. There’s something magical about discovering a new series that brings you such joy and excitement. That unrelenting desire to get back to your book whenever you’ve been inconvenienced by not being able to read. Yes, I’m taking about you, stupid work and all other adult responsibilities!

New here — saw someone carrying a Kindle at the beach and now I’m curious how you carry yours

Hi everyone, I just joined the sub and thought this might be the right place to ask.

I was at the beach yesterday and saw someone with a Kindle, and it made me realise I have no idea how people actually carry theirs around when they’re out.

Mine usually just gets buried in my bag with keys, cables, sunscreen, a bottle, and all the other random stuff I carry. Then I either worry it’s getting scratched, or I forget I even brought it.

For those of you who take your Kindle outside — beach, cafés, commuting, work, uni, travelling — how do you usually carry it?

Case, sleeve, pouch, or just loose in the bag? Any personal recommendations?

Read Kindle books in iBooks

I want to move my new Kindle book to iBooks, but I can’t get it to work. I was able to do it last year by somehow converting it to an epub file, but I’m having a hard time doing it again.

I’m thinking about trying to make an automater script to screenshot and save the text from the Kindle website, so I can make a pdf. But was hoping someone here might know of a better way.

Getting a kindle was kinda on of the best decisions of my life

so like, ive been feeling brain rotted, i used to be on my phone CONSTANTLY and i used to write and play on my switch more but it felt like my phone was calling my name and eventually that made any other hobby í had fade out. i didnt wany to spend my summer rotting away woth work and marching and so i got me a kindle. it was on sale for prime day and ive been wanting to get an e reader. i was looking more at other brands but omce i saw that kindles wete on sale i kinda just went for it. ive had it for a week now ans i say that i REALLY like it. ive started having random mysic play while i read and its so calming. and my parents have been bothering me less since im not on “that dam phone” all the time and reading. it also has made me talk to them more since ive started to talk to tjem abojt tje books ive been reading. im on my 3rd book. ive been borrowing from libby so i wouldnt need to get a subscription or buy books. its honestly nice feeling like an intellectual. my friends always consider me the dumb one so it feels nice to feel smart. since ik theyre not reading. i got the kindle basic since thats the cheapest model and theres obly so much a high school student can buy. now im saving up for an ipod since my mp3 has given up on life. And since im saving money witj not buying books i can get to my goal faster (as long as i don’t buy a lot of food) anyways tahts it. ty for reading, ima go back to my reading now before my parents make me clean for being on my phone

Kindle paperwhite premium leather cover. Does a similar cover exist for the 11th gen paperwhite?

I really love the premium leather cover that Amazon made for the 12th gen paperwhite. Unfortunately they didn’t make this for the 11th gen. Has anyone found one that’s similar? All I’ve found are PU leather cases and leather cases that have designs on them or weird clasps and other intricacies that I don’t really like.

Really trying to not upgrade from an 11th to a 12th just for the cover 🤣

Screen Protection in flapless cases

Just got the new 12th gen paperwhite and the additional size makes it a bit of a pain to hold without a popsocket/strap. I've been eyeing up the popsocket / magnetic backed cases but most of them provide no screen protection (I managed to crack my last kindles screen when traveling ceaseless!).

Is there a case I'm missing which supports both? Is there a sleeve that will fit the kindle with a case on?

Setting to stop book covers from updating to live action movie covers

Mange Your Content and Devices > Preferences > Scroll Down to Automatic Book Updates

This is for Kindle-purchased books specifically, but there's a setting to turn off your books from automatically updating with the new versions (including those with new movie covers).

Unfortunately, there's no way to restore previous versions unless you want to go the route of Calibre side-loading -- I will forever be frustrated by this especially with Muderbot's hideous movie cover 💔

I'm loving my new Kindle Basic!

I gotta say, I love this small form. What are your current reads now? But I do miss the warm light from my Kindle Colorsoft. 😊

I caved during prime sales and my new just kindle arrived!

So...I do have a working PW 11th gen. However I really enjoyed the bigger screen of the colorsoft when I was testing it out (returned that one due to the display causing eye strain and headaches).

So during prime sales, I debated upgrading to the PW 12th gen Signature. Anyway, I talked myself out of it until the last moment when I realised I could get it for £87 instead of the sale price of £137 and the full price of £189.

I was worried about the yellow bar issues but I received my kindle yesterday and I believe it's ok on that front! It is generally warmer toned that the 11th but when they are not side to side, I don't notice it. And the auto brightness feature is a nice extra benefit.

Gonna test it out a bit more and see. The only thing is the battery is dropping fast, I'm hoping, as I only got it last night, that it's still indexing and will eventually settle.

If all is ok, I'll either keep my 11th gen to take out and about with me or give it away. Want to make sure I really love the 12th gen one before I commit to anything haha.

Appreciation post for you all

I genuinely enjoy reading. Reading is like an activity that gives me healthy pleasure, unlike doom scrolling which is just a temporary pleasure and sadness afterwards.

But sometimes, I do have trouble starting to read. I'm going through a phase where I don't have much motivation to do anything at all. I don't have anything to do at all right now and somehow even then, when I'm with my phone and reddit, it becomes difficult to stop scrolling and start reading. That's where the Kindle posts in here come in. Whenever I see someone's Kindle with a good book title cover, it creates a mild fomo and urges me to read! Once I start reading, it becomes easier and even like leisure to go on.

So thanks a lot everyone, please keep posting stuff, and keep motivating people to read!

Got my Kindle as "brain rot rehab" and it's actually working??

Okay so I bought a Kindle mainly to force myself off the TikTok scroll spiral, half expecting it to just sit in a drawer like every other self-improvement purchase I've made.

Reader, it did NOT sit in a drawer.

I'm like a week in and I've caught myself choosing my Kindle over my phone unprompted, multiple times, which if you knew my screen time before this would sound like a medical miracle. There's something about the e-ink screen and the fact that it can't ping me with notifications that just... resets my brain? I pick it up to read one chapter and suddenly it's an hour later and I feel GOOD instead of that gross doom-scroll fog.

Anyone else have this experience going from short-form content addiction to actually reading again? I'm also looking for any book recs please, I'm hooked and need more fuel 📚
