I hypothesised that printers have become much better at bridging over voids since Gridfinity was first published 4.5 years ago, and that it is no longer necessary to have big chunky bases on the bottom of each Gridfinity bin. As only the edges serve a purpose (snapping into base plates/other bins) any material saved in the middle is, theoretically, pure upside.

I tested a few prints, removing more centre of each base, until only a 4.4mm ring remained. Then I submitted it as an idea to my favourite Gridfinity generator through Github, and within a day they'd iterated, improved and pushed even further.

The version published as a feature on their tool leaves only a 3mm base ring and actually chamfers the opposite way to mine, making an even larger distance to be bridged - 35.5mm total.

To my surprise my A1 could print this new lightweight base design (in generic PLA) with zero issue. The first bridging layer (on the bottom, where you'll never see it) is unsurprisingly pretty rough, but by the time it layers up to the bin floor the only difference is an almost imperceptable change in how the light reflects over the bridged portion.

The lightweight base design saves ~11% filament over the standard base (approx 0.6g per socket for me), with no material downsides.

I'll be printing all my Gridfinity with this base from now on and, as someone who is very filament-conscious, I love the thought that my simple idea of revisiting limitations could make that much difference if even just one person decides to use it over every item in their storage system.

Charge rate ramps up very slowly during free window, preventing full charge (GoodWe, SEMS+)

As shown, my TOU charge rate "steps up" in clear intervals until it reaches the specified charge rate (currently my maximum, 10kW). The initial step is only 3kW, and lasts for a good hour into the free-3 period, so I can't make the most out of it by fully charging the battery.

Is there anything that can be done to shorten this charging "ramp-up" time?

I'm assuming it's a measure to prolong the life of the battery, but a lot of other metrics for the same purpose (such as minimum SOC) can be changed, and I would only have to tweak it a small percentage.

Edit: Diagnosed!

The BMS throttles each battery's charge rate individually based on "Minimum Cell temp". Likely only affects those in colder climates, and whose battery has downtime overnight, for it to cool down in Standby.

Apparently this cannot be configured in SEMS, but can in SolarGo (the other official Goodwe app). I've yet to guess the default password to check, though.

Is this shower waste acceptably installed? Had a right tiler nightmare

Shower floods every time I use it, after fresh ensuite reno. Turns out the inset waste formed an air seal, so even when it was fully submerged no water was draining. To be clear, this was NOT an issue with the fall/drop or the usual low-ish flow rate of an inset waste. Popping one side with a screwdriver breaks the airlock and then it drains as usual.

Obviously not ideal to need a shower screwdriver, though.

Anyway, popping the lid to try and solve that I saw the way the actual waste has (not) been connected to the waste pipe. It's clearly horribly off-centre, but I was warned about that. To my layman's eye, I feel like it's a bad idea to have the waste drain into this ~20mm deep hole between shower and drainpipe that's just waterproofing and some sort of concrete(?) jutting in.

Is this to code?

Will it not accumulate grime on all the rough surfaces over time?

Or worse, wear through the waterproofing?

Or am I just over-reacting because of all the other issues I've had across our THREE tilers?

Why is Pale subtitled "Without a Doubt"?

Just got re-done with the first arc on my re-read and it hit me that "Lost for Words" is such a good name for the Hungry Choir related arc, given the mechanics of how the ritual works.

Then I realised that the fact I didn't pick that up on my first read means I'm an absolute numbskull and probably missed some meaning with the subtitle of the overall story.

Any theories, confirmed or otherwise?

Edit: I got the subtitle wrong, it's actually "Beyond a Doubt". Please refer back to "absolute numbskull".
