PSA to parent friends: your child-free friends do not want to watch your kids unless they offer
I’m sick of the casual “oh, is there any way that you can watch ____ on Saturday night? I’m in a childcare pinch!” I don’t have kids so that I can enjoy my free evenings. I wouldn’t even do it for money. I’ve never offered or even seemed remotely interested except for telling them their kid is cute, which does not mean I want to borrow them. And yet I’ve been asked multiple times, once by a friend who I hadn’t seen in YEARS. Your child-free friends are not free babysitters because they have “nothing to do” or somehow need to experience the joy of someone climbing all over their clean furniture with dirty jam hands. Thank you.
