Heads up. Recruiter phishing scams are getting smarter.

Hey everyone out there. Just wanted to throw out a quick public service announcement because I almost got caught by this.

A few days ago, I got contacted by someone claiming to be a recruiter from a very well known recruiting firm. Everything about it looked legitimate at first. The email signature looked real, the branding matched, and the conversation itself felt normal.

We went back and forth for a couple days talking about experience, roles, resume, all the standard recruiter stuff.

Then after I sent over my resume, the conversation shifted into how my resume “needed improvements” and how they could introduce me to a third party resume writing service.

That was the moment it started feeling wrong.

Honestly, the only reason I’m posting this is because it was way more convincing than the usual obvious scam emails. The fact that they took a few days to build trust first made it feel real.

So yeah, just be careful out there if you’re job hunting right now. Some of these phishing attempts are getting a lot more polished.

Alternatives to Snap-on OBD-II scanner updates?

One of my clients recently got hit with a surprise software update bill for his Snap-on OBD-II scanner. It was almost $1,200 for a single year, which seems pretty steep.

At that price point, it got me wondering whether there are better options out there, maybe something iPad-based or with a more modern interface. I’m just starting to look into this, so I’m hoping to get some guidance from people who actually use these tools.

My client does auto upholstery work, and he mentioned needing a scanner that can reset certain systems after the work is done. I’m not totally sure which resets he needs yet, but I’d like to understand what options are available besides paying that much every year for updates.

Are there any good alternatives to Snap-on that would work for this kind of use? I’d appreciate any advice from the guys and gals here who have experience with scanners, subscriptions, and update costs.

Thanks very much. I appreciate any guidance you can give me.

I Understand GA4, GTM, and Google Ads… But Managed Conversions Still Haven’t Clicked

For those of you who eventually “got it,” what helped?

I feel like I’ve hit a wall trying to truly understand managed conversions in Google Ads.

I already understand the basics and have things working:

  • Google Search Console
  • GA4
  • Google Tag Manager
  • Google Ads campaigns

My campaigns are actually performing well, which almost makes this more frustrating because I know I’m missing the next layer.

Where I’m getting mentally stuck is understanding the bigger picture around:

  • managed conversions
  • offline conversion tracking
  • enhanced conversions
  • feeding qualified lead data back into Google Ads
  • value-based optimization
  • how experienced teams actually structure this operationally
