Feel like I’ve seen a lot of folks on here say Psychiatry isn’t necessarily getting more competitive, it’s just more US-MD / DO’s applying, so they’re filling more sports with those applicants as opposed to IMG’s.
Wondering if that’s true, and how competitive it really is for US MD applicants specifically?
Another doom and gloom question, but I’ve seen l a lot of the fear is for general in-patient and C/L positions but not as much for outpatient (where salaries may be lower and in less desired areas). But I’m curious if anyone knows much about outlook for some of the fellowships, particularly addiction or emergency psychiatry?
Anyone ever considered switching specialties during residency, then didn’t and now regret not switching? Current resident thinking EM isn’t the best fit for me and curios if others had similar thoughts.
Curious from those that have either switched specialties themselves or know of others that have, did the majority of this people re-apply through the match? Or did more people directly reach out to PD’s to see if they had openings and apply outside the match?
I recognize this is probably specialty specific. I am thinking of applying into Psychiatry from EM if anyone has specific comments on that, but wanted to know more in general too.
