Final Queensland electoral redistribution

In accordance with section 51 of the Electoral Act 1992, the Queensland Redistribution Commission has prepared its final electoral redistribution of the State’s electoral districts.

Plenty of changes, the Katter party has been delivered a massive blow, likely in retaliation to them announcing plans to side with Labor prior to the election results. I also noticed 17 renamings of electorates.

Given ‘project invisibility’ that was recently uncovered and the ever present threat to women’s rights in Queensland. My skeptical mind is deconstructing the name changes….Maiwar was renamed, and is named after the Indigenous word for the Brisbane River. Oodgeroo was renamed, named after Oodgeroo Noonuccal, who was an Aboriginal Australian political activist, artist and educator, who campaigned for Aboriginal rights. McConnel, named after a woman, after Mary McConnel (1824–1910), a prominent European settler, philanthropist, and social reformer.

I only looked into those three so far as I have projects due but wanted to open the discussion in general and in more niche contexts.

Outside of the clear shifting of boundaries to favour the current government, instead of adding more seats to parliament (as was an option). I do question other motives behind the changes.

any other insights or thoughts?
