I was looking to get the Sandisk iXpand flash drive but saw that it’s confusing and kind of obsolete. I see some other options but I don’t see much on them. Any recommendations?

Wim Wenders Wings of Desire (theory)

(SPOILERS ) :

I recently watched, Wim Wenders’ 1987 masterpiece Wings of Desire and I haven’t been able to stop thinking about Peter Falk’s Character. Originally, as I was watching the film, I thought he was just a devout guy who trusted his soul/ intuition/gut. But after finding out that he himself was an angel who decided to fall to earth my thought changed. Though it didn’t change much, I still had the overall impression that he was good natured and genuinely wanted a fellow angel to experience the beauty God has placed on earth. This initial opinion however, changed drastically when during the scene at the schnitzel stand he does the exact same spiel “I can’t see you, but I can feel you, I wish I could shake your hand” To the other angel we see constantly in this film Cassiel.

When I saw this, I couldn’t help but feel that it was absolutely sinister. And it got me thinking… Is Peter Falk playing Satan ?!!? As I said before, I brushed this off initially, but later in the film during the monologue of Marion (Bruno Ganz’ love interest) in the bar she says :

“ There is no greater love story than ours, it will be the story of Giants, invisible, transposable. A story of new ancestors.”

This to me directly points to the biblical idea of the Nephilim: the children of fallen angels and human women. Giants who walk among the Earth dominating man and making them stray from God. When I made this connection I was in SHOCK! Because on the surface we have a beautiful story of a love that transcends dimensions but if you change your perspective (and assume my theory is true) it becomes a terrifying tragedy, a story of how Lucifer deceives a curious angel into falling to earth for the love of a lost and lonely human woman. I believe this idea is further proved again in the bar when Nic Cave and the Bad Seeds are preforming and we see Bruno Ganz counterpart angel, Cassiel, turn away as if in pain at seeing Damiel at the concert. This same angel (Cassiel) seemed unimpressed by Peter Falks “I wish I could have a coffee with you” plea. He looked as if he knew that trick, as if he knew who Peter Falk truly was. Furthermore Peter Falk’s character in this film is credited as Lui-Meme, which translates to “himself” or “ himself  \[pronoun\] used to emphasize he, him or the name of a male person or animal”

I know this could be considered a stretch. But the filmmakers made an intentional choice to credit Peter Falk this way and not as Peter Falk as himself or Peter Falk as Peter Falk but as Lui - meme. A word which in terms of spelling and pronunciation is similar to Lumière which translates to “light” and according to Dictionary.com is directly correlated with **“ Auguste Marie Louis Nicolas** (oɡyst mari lwi nikɔlɑ). 1862–1954, and his brother, **Louis Jean**(lwi ʒɑ̃), 1864–1948, French chemists and cinema pioneers, who invented a cinematograph and a process of colour photography”.

Within this film Peter Falk’s is an actor, a profession where a person stands in front of a machine (a film camera) that manipulates light through chemical processes to produce an image. A profession where a person acts or deceives those who mindlessly watch. And Lucifer as we all know is the angel who rebelled against God and who is also referred to as the MorningSTAR. Additionally a common term for a protagonist within film and television is… that’s right. A STAR. Moreover Peter Falk is the protagonist or star of the film that is being shot within the film. We must also consider where we are introduced to Peter Falk’s character, the sky. The same as Damiel, and yes he is in a plane but I do think it’s an interesting parallel, because of the multitude of shots where we as the audience fly through the clouds and have a Birds Eye view. This to me DIRECTLY affirms my idea that Peter Falk is satan. He is a fallen angel who was cast down to earth and now pursues a career deceiving the masses by way of a manipulation of light. Addedly the name lucifer directly means **light-bringer"** or **"light-bearer"** in Latin, coming from the words *lux* (light) and *ferre* (to bring or bear) and is also associated with “a friction match having as active substances of antimony sulfide and potassium chlorate”. That last bit securely links to the chemical process talked about in the definition of lumiere.
Furthermore Peter Falk/Lucifer uses his knowledge of the spiritual realm to mislead the angels he knows are constantly watching him. Playing on their curiosity of humanity and even their boredom of their eternal tasks here on earth.

This theory’s validity can be highlighted in an excerpt of an article written by Ray published by Medium on May 18, 2020 titled Analysis on “Wings of Desire” it says “Wenders experienced a difficult adolescence where he was often at conflict with his family’s tradition. Subsequently, Wenders likely wanted to portray this discord in his film, *Wings of Desire*. Hence, the main character, Damiel, embodies his perspective. As the film progresses, it becomes ever so more apparent that Damiel no longer desires to continue his life as an immortal angel. Moreover, it could be argued that both Wenders and Damiel were placed into their own, however similar ‘oppressive environment’, which they disliked and aspired for something ‘closer to \[their\] heart’. “Damiel starts talking about his desire to become human. The film continues to cut from Damiel and Cassiel as they speak. The intended effect here is to highlight that they are now no longer at an agreement and have conflicting views on the idea.” Ray’s quote drives home the fact that Wender’s was making a film that at its core is about spiritual separation. Of course this is showcased throughout in multiple ways one of which was by separating humans and angels by their perspectives, one of color and the other being black and white. Another being thoughts and actions. We see several times as the angles read the thoughts of people, that their thoughts constantly don’t align with their actions. This is most notable in the suicide scene, where a man jumps off the roof of a building but doesn’t even know why his last thought being “here I go… but why? Hauntingly displaying deep spiritual separation. Lastly there is a philosophical separation of the two angels Damiel and Cassiel, one who is captivated by the lives of humans and the other who is steadfast in his duty.

In conclusion I believe that Wim Wenders created a film not about an angel giving up his immortality for love. But a film about the fall of an angel who was enticed by the lives of men and then ultimately convinced by the cunning yet simple words of the devil played exceptionally by the legend Peter Falk. This of course reframes the entirety of the film and with this new viewpoint one has an entirely new experience with a piece of art that has stood the test of time and inspired generations of artists. Leaving them with a philosophical decision to make. To follow love and pursue happiness though it may lead you into the wages of sin which in the case of our protagonist Damiel the angel is literally to cast off immortality and face death. Or to udedicate oneself to duty, whatever it may be for you. Knowing it will cause pain, knowing that at times it will not feel rewarding but ultimately you have the assurance that the thing you’ve committed yourself to, is indeed righteous.
