Repot of neglected plants
Hi, please don't judge me too harshly. I recently was sick for several months and was able to barely keep my plants alive. I wasn't great at it before,... they seemed to start declining when I tried to mix my own soil months ago tbh. I'm most worried about this one. Repot was in to a tropical plant soil that feels heavier than normal but seems gritty and has lava rock in it.
First off, has anyone used this soil (in photos). I'm looking for a pre mix that isn't crazy expensive and not just for regular houseplants that will hold too much moisture. I'm unable to mix my own soil rn and have a very limited amount of energy (don't worry I'm not buying more).
I've heard the typical "water when the soil feels dry to touch/moisture meter/weight of pot" and not using tap water. Specific humidity. Perfect indirect light. I'm just trying to keep them alive now, and while I understand they're more likely to thrive in specific care, I had little to no issues for a long time before trying to mix my own soil. I trimmed some of the worse leaves off when doing a repot. This plant definitely had inconsistent watering, guilty. The roots did not seem rotted at all to me but were obviously not thriving (so I downsized). The leaves I cut have BLACK in them. I cut up towards the leaf more and it goes away. Is this a fungus I can treat? I watered fully after repot then filled in dry soil on top. Has new growth so I'm not just giving up.
Thanks for any help/suggestions other than super specific mixing soils, or basically telling me that I suck. If there's a sub for people who are just trying to keep plants alive without getting crazy specific, please direct me there. It has fine indirect light, humidity is always high in my home and in winter I run a humidifier. I have a moisture meter and stick my finger in the dirt. I know tap water will brown the tips but there's clearly something else concerning happening here, so I'm trying to fix that before getting in to specific soil pH or trying to mix again etc etc.
