First flower! I didn't even know this was possible until today!
I love calatheas, and I'm looking for a tall/large one that will be a "statement" piece in my living room. Which Calathea have you seen grow the tallest?
I wish I could get a Calathea Lutea, but I can't find a source in the U.S.
Is this plant struggling with the pot size? Still struggling if it needs a bigger pot. It grows small leaves but they rarely grow bigger.
Okay, so originally it was my mother's plant, but it was in bad shape, so as a last resort I decided to take a cutting from a healthy part and root it in water. In less than a week it already had roots. At first I wanted to replant it, but it's doing so well here, growing new leaves, that I'm going to leave it here. It must be about a month since it's been there
I pay close attention to the light conditions and water my Calatheas with low-mineral water that I buy specifically for them. The only thing I can’t really control well is the humidity. It ranges between 30% and 50%, depending on the season.
I do have a humidifier, but since my apartment is very large, it’s difficult to regulate the humidity effectively in a specific area.
I put a new Calathea in my living room just two days ago, and I can already see brown tips developing.
Surely they can’t really be that sensitive?!
Hey guys!
I was wondering what is happening to my calathea?
I got it like 3/4 months ago, had to replant it and it has grown lovely.
1 month ago, I had 2 new leaves that didn't wanted to open and started to die, so I cut it and since 2 ou 3 weeks now leaves are rolling in.
What is happening? Is it bad? Good?
Nothing changed in my way to taking care of it (some spray water, watering it when it's dry, using time to time fertilizer)
I actually thought it was dying because it kept turning more and more yellow. Turns out it was blooming!
Hey hi, what is this!?!?. Its only on these two newest leaves on this vine. It seems the other leaves are just fine.
These leaves, the second picture is an older leaf and the first is a newer leaf, its about to put out another....
The plants overall health isnt terrible, its flowering still and the root system is phenomenal, but the other day the leaf kind of shined with the sunrise and it caught my eye.
Please dont tell me its something like Mosaic
My calathea white fusion has been decently happy in my grow cabinet, but it's been getting more yellow and speckled lately. What am I doing wrong? Substrate is 1:1:1 mix of soil, pumice, and orchid bark. Temp & humidity are around 75⁰F and 70%. I water it about every 7 days, when it seems dry
Edit: after some more thinking, I think it may possibly be root rot. It's in a grow cabinet with high humidity so 7 days is probably too often. I'm going to take it out of the soil and inspect it today 🤞
Ended up chopping off all the leaves, repotted into nursery pot, and just leaving it outside semi shaded. Forgot about it for a few months and now she has growth!
I was scared at first but now it’s so beautiful. She was down to 2 leaves about 9 months ago. Question that center flower means she’s happy or what???? The pictures are over 2 days.
And now I have everything with a fine line. Jungle Rose. With a pink central vein. As I understand it, this is the wild species of calathea roseopicta. Green rose. Она же Green lipstick, Green Goddess, green. She is so green that she even has the wrong side of the leaf green. Dottie.
The shelf is 1m from a northwest facing window. Will a plant light like this be enough for their needs?
I’m new to collecting Calatheas. I was in a big box store and found this variety labeled as part of a trial collection. But the name is consistent with the existing Medallion. Did I fall for a bit of marketing hype or is this actually something new?
They’re pretty easy so far, might collect more
Hello,
I am relatively new to the houseplant world and bought this calathea in April (she was already a tall plant). Up to now I had no real issues with her, appart from a few crispy tips and my cat playing with a few of her leaves. I noticed her growth was a bit slow (new leaves were small and rare) at the beginning of summer so I repotted in regular soil with a lot of perlite, a little bit of leca and started fertilizer (npk 7-3-6). I bottom water with brita-filtered water only and keep her near my bathroom so she gets humidity from the shower. Fertilizer is diluted and once every other watering. She gets light from a big west-facing window.
In the last week or two her leaves started curling, browning and drying very fast. I’ve already had to remove a few of them. I have not changed her watering habits (only when pot feels light and top is dry) and cannot figure out what is wrong. Somehow she is now producing new growth (???) while the rest of her seems to be dying. I’m afraid it is pests but haven’t seen any bugs on her. Maybe it’s too much fertilizer?
What could be the problem?? How do I help her?
Cat tax at the end
