New to semi-hydro! Rate my setup

Literally just finished putting this together. Does this look right? Is there such thing as a "right" ratio? Does any of this even matter or is it all just one big experiment? Lol

I rinsed the LECA balls cause they were making the water murky, I have some hydroponic fertilizer arriving soon, and this will live in a warm, humid grow cabinet.

How do I make my calathea happy?

My calathea white fusion has been decently happy in my grow cabinet, but it's been getting more yellow and speckled lately. What am I doing wrong? Substrate is 1:1:1 mix of soil, pumice, and orchid bark. Temp & humidity are around 75⁰F and 70%. I water it about every 7 days, when it seems dry

Edit: after some more thinking, I think it may possibly be root rot. It's in a grow cabinet with high humidity so 7 days is probably too often. I'm going to take it out of the soil and inspect it today 🤞

Help with baby plant!

I bought a golden Pothos in June and when I repotted it soon after, I saw this tiny cutting that was living among the adult plants. It was literally just one node, no roots, and had the smallest hint at a leaf beginning to grow. I took it out so it would have a chance to grow on its own, but it seems to be stuck; this leaf has been like this for weeks. What should I do?

Beware Fremont vintage mall scam...

Don't get me wrong, I love the Fremont vintage mall, and to some extent I can understand why antique stores need to stock newer manufactured items to make better sales. But this?? Seriously?? Marking up a $15-20 IKEA lamp to $95??? If you go to the Fremont vintage mall just keep your wits about you and maybe do an image search of what you're about to buy 🤷‍♂️

Edit to add info: the tag says "MOD," which could mean modded, because the light does swap colors between three kinds of white when you press the button. This is probably just some cheap LED that still doesn't warrant $95.

I need more people to buy these so the price goes down 😭

I first saw this Musa aeae variegated banana plant on a reddit post, and I fell in love! Never saw one until today, and looked at the price tag... Oof 😓 Rich people, please buy more of this plant so that I can someday afford it when it becomes less rare lol!!!

IT'S WORKING 😈

Within TWO DAYS this little cutie has managed to catch 7 flies!! My plan is finally coming together, hehehehehe.....

Side note... The roots on this ping were extremely shallow, is that normal? And do I need to get all this debris from repotting off the leaves 😬

Yay, roots! Now what?

Started attempting to propagate my painted echeveria a while ago, and some of the leaves are sprouting roots, yippee!! But... Now what? Don't buds also appear from this spot? Do I mist them? Do I wait until the parent leaf is totally shriveled? Help!!

Which way should the air be flowing?

Hi all! So I just set up these fans in my cabinet (woohoo!), but I realized they're blowing air backwards, not down. Oops. Though it's obviously an extremely easy fix, it makes me wonder: does it matter which way the air is flowing? It's circulating either way which is the most important thing

Are marble queens difficult for you too?

I thought I was doing everything right. Chunky soil, plenty of sunlight, keeping the soil moist but not over watering. It seems like no matter what I did, it was destined to fail. What's with that??? I decided to try a chop and prop to make the plant look more full, but I'm doubtful it'll work. Just feeling kinda down :/

Separation plan?

My tree philodendron technically has five plants in one pot. One of them is a leafless stump that's still alive, and one of them is just a baby that's really struggling to grow since it's competing with the big plants.

I was planning on separating these two plants from the other three so they can have their own room to grow. Good idea, bad idea? The last time I repotted these plants, they were so tangled and fused together that it was difficult to separate them. Is it worth the risk?

Tree Philo glow-up!!

I wish I had a photo of this plant back when I first got it, but I'm so proud of how far it's come. I got this as a gift from a friend way back in 2023, and that was when I was deep in my depression and killed soooooo many plants from neglect. Learning to care for plants was a long and difficult journey for me, but I never gave up and it taught me to care for myself as well. This plant struggled with me, and I feel like its success is a reflection of my own. She's popping off and I'm so happy!!! Her latest leaf is 12 inches long, the biggest leaf I've ever grown :) I can't wait to see how big she can get!

First photo is from February, second photo is from this morning. It's only dim cause it was before sunrise, but she gets full sun in my East window, in the summer that's about 14 hours. She loves it!! I accidentally transitioned her to take direct sunlight cause I have to leave my window open 24/7 with the hot weather. No sunburns though!!

She doesn't have a name, any suggestions?

How can I encourage growth?

Hi all! My ant plant got pretty leggy so I decided to chop it just a little bit, because ~the internet~ said it'll grow back, but it's had these little baby stems forever that have barely grown. How can I actually encourage new stem growth?

It's in orchid bark with just a tiny bit of sphagnum moss in the middle, and I soak it once the bark looks dry. Is it true that these need to be fertilized like crazy? I don't fertilize it often

Is it cooked?

I didn't realize until it was too late that this new leaf got stuck in the petiole and it was bent like crazy. I got a wet paper towel and successfully got it out, but the stem has this gnarly looking dent in it. How long do we think it'll survive? 😬

u/Autumn-pumpkin5378 — 25 days ago

Oh my god it's happening! Okay stay calm.

STAY F*&#KING CALM!!

My burle marx has not grown a new leaf since February lol

What's happening to my Sophie Cecile?

My begonia lives in a grow cabinet with temp ~75⁰ and humidity ~60%, and lives in a basalt (similar to terracotta) pot because I was warned about overwatering. She was absolutely thriving (the brown leaf edges were before the cabinet), but I came back to this after a 5-day vacation. What happened?? 😢

u/Autumn-pumpkin5378 — 28 days ago

Don't give up on your props!!

I was just about ready to toss this philo birkin prop because I hadn't seen much progress in a while, but it hadn't died either. I just got back from a vacation and saw that this baby grew a massive root sticking out of the pot!! I think she's more than ready for dirt lol

Ant plant help!!

I desperately need help with my ant plant, I'm not sure what to do to make it happy. First of all, I just got back from a trip and discovered it has thrips, so fml, but it's also been struggling for a while in general. The caudex is looking a bit more wrinkly than normal and it has lost a LOT of leaves. Help!!!
