Did I do the paper towel method right??
Washed out a pastry box and cleaned it good with distilled. Paper towel doused in distilled with ping leaves on top and sprayed down again then sealed. Do i need to drill holes or something or if not they are safe from rot?? Do they need sunlight or indirect by sitting in the shade but for humidity??
They have been on my wishlist for the past year and I’m so excited I was finally able to get some 🥰🥹!! They’re so cute!
Ever since I repotted my pe formosa it has slowly been getting more white from the center and smaller leaves. Is it going dormant? It used to be with my vft where it was very happy and definitely always wet.
So I have just gotten a few pings and I am so paranoid of root rot. So far it is hard to find photos of actual root rot. What are symptoms or even share photos of actual root rot. 2 of my new pings leaves seem to be starting to change color and shrivel up a tiny bit
I’ve been firmly in the aquascaping/planted tank hobby for a long time, but I recently discovered pinguiculas and can’t stop thinking about them. I have a nano shrimp tank that I’ve been wanting to rescape, but I’m wondering how feasible it would be to convert it into a terrarium instead and how much of my planted tank supplies I can repurpose. I have a basic understanding of carnivorous plants and how their needs differ from photosynthetic plants.
What I have:
UNS 5N rimless tank with glass lid (not airtight)
Twinstar 30B LED grow light
Fluval stratum aquasoil
Aquatic moss and other semi-aquatic plants that are capable of growing emersed
RO water
Would I be able to do a terrarium with an aquasoil substrate for moss and utricularia, with a ping island with rope to wick moisture and additional carnivorous plant soil? Is the light I have appropriate?
Lilac Lollipop in bloom. The bloom is about the size of a penny and is just the most beautiful shade of lilac. 💜
I recently increased grow light intensity, got new clear plant tags to replace white ones, and added some glow in the dark mushrooms today (after inspo here of course), so wanted to share the cuteness🍄🟫
Hi I have this little setup with some sundews and pings. They have different substrates and the pings are raised laying on a peat/sand mixture. I have them under the same grow lights but I am worried the pings look a little burnt. They are under both white and pinkish white barrina t5 lights. I keep the 3 strips around 7 inches above the plants. Just want to get some opinions on how healthy they look
Got this ping for my Mother 2 days ago since I heard they are easy to take care of and she likes them. Plant seemed to arrive in healthy/good conditions but its been deteriorating from what i assume its a mix of over-watering and stress. ( using Sphagnum moss on the bottom and the substrate the seller gave so it shouldn't be that) Center is brownish which I read is because of rot, is there any way to save it or is it done?
I have Johanna, Raspberry Blush, Blush, and Cyclosecta. The one in the pot in the middle never had a name but it’s still just as beautiful!
Finally got around doing a small terrarium for my pings. I love how the moss wall came out, it holds moisture great so I'm not too worried about it drying out too fast. The dragon stone doesn't seem to wick water at all so might just take that out. Cant wait to see them grow into the space
I'm curious if anyone has success growing their Mexican pings in peat-free substrate? I have always had issues using peat moss in substrates for my tropical and carnivorous plants, so I now only use it in my pinguicula substrate because it seems to be universally recommended. But I worry that my ping mix is too peat-rich because i have lost a few pings using it (not sure if peat is the only issue as I may have been overwatering at times, but I feel like peat encourages mold growth and fungus gnat eggs which have both killed some of my pings).
However, I'm nervous about trying peat-free substrates for my pings because of the lack of info online. I know that a 1/1/1 ratio of sand/perlite/vermiculite is sometimes recommended, but others say that vermiculite breaks down too quickly. Has anyone had success with just a sand/perlite/pumice mix? Maybe with sphagnum moss to help with water wicking?
I created my first Pingdom and I’m super excited! I’m somewhat new to carnivorous plants but I’ve had a single pinguiculas for a few months in my greenhouse cabinet. Any tips?
I have been trying to pollinate my pings and i feel like they take and then i miss the seeds somehow. I read to wait til the pod cracks or the flower falls off but ..it’s hanging now but not brown? help pls
First time carnivorous plant. Do I keep her in a water bowl?
