My first pings
A few months ago I got my first Pings. Pinguicula primulaflora to be more specific.

The drosera by the grass was removed...
Trying to see how long I can keep it sealed to grow the moss out more.
Everying is green so can't be sure of much:
True blue
Ekuma
Emarg x jaum
Estrellita
Johanna?
Gypsicola x el lobo
I’ve been putting this off because I have to take everything out and rework my lights (adding 4 small ones to cover the dark areas) but I finally pulled the trigger today. Wow, do I not have enough pings 😏
Next project is to work on the next cabinet so I can buy more lol
Wondering if I can leave my pings in quarantine land for incoming plants - I am thinking they shouldn’t really get infested since they’ll trap and digest everything? Is my thinking flawed?
I was finalizing and narrowing down when I was getting, but I was taking recommendations from other people and I was about to pull the plug until I decide to do a little bit more research and I use Pinterest.
Someone is growing pinks with like a dark purpleish light and they are using a 10 W grow light bar. Is that all you really need I was checking the history and other people were saying you need about 300+ ppfd. Is this over kill?? I selected it because it’s pinkish white and 3 foot
P. Hemiepiphytica
I’ve been missing this one being full and plump, and keep nearly buying more while waiting for them to return.
I’ve bought several pings and have propagated all of them so the bulk of my pings come from leaf props. I’ve ordered from 2 (maybe 3 sellers, I can’t recall) sellers and one of the sellers I was most impressed with. The other seller in the past Ive thought the pings were small and/or not in the best shape. Being somewhat new to pings at the time, I didn’t know if the condition I received them in was standard so I never questioned it. I would pot them up and wait for them to stabilize and perk up. However after propagating my own pings and shipping some to friends, it’s made me wonder if I should question the quality of the pings I’ve received. So I just received my Pinguicula Moranensis Var. x Cycloseta yesterday, I paid for 2 day express shipping so it wasn’t boxed up and in transit for long. I bought one and I’m going to assume that a second smaller one was included maybe bc I received the larger one which is on the smaller side. I’m curious if anyone thinks this is normal or if maybe I should go with another seller in the future. You can see in the first 2-3 pics the melted leaves (which I know is probably typical with shipping pings) and I placed a dime next to them for scale. They arrived with dried up/no roots.
Pic 3 - After potting them up
Pic 4 - dried up/dead roots?
Pic 5 - immediately after removing pings from container and opening up paper towel
Today is this Punguicula ‘Ysi’. It’s so dreamy and I love the he veins!
I just grabbed this ping from my local garden center. No label or anything so I'm not sure what I'm working with but check out all the babies it already had! I'm going to have to upgrade her condo soon. Hoping my usual ping things are appropriate for this one!
Here are my pinguicula Mirador and Metallic Purple. I love them, when they are out of dormancy and doing all the bug catching things.
Thing is, they've been stuck like this, for months. I know they can have a dormancy period for parts of the year, but they've been like this almost the entire time I've had them, which is well over a year. For contrast, my drosera wide leg is the same age, and is under identical lighting, and is growing and has sent out 2 pups (is that what we call the little babies?). Yes, I know they aren't the same plants, but nothing I've done or changed has pulled these out of dormancy.
Lighting: barina T8, 14 hours, approx 8 in away
Substrate: loose bonsai soil (pumice, lava rock, pine bark, etc), mixed with sphagnum moss and peat moss for retaining moisture.
Humidity: 40-50% base, not including the humidity right above the plants due to them sitting in a dish of water (distilled).
Peeps... What am I doing wrong? I've considered using a cheap gooseneck e26 lamp holder, putting my sansi 36w grow light in it, and putting just inches from the plant, but I'm not sure even that will work.
My Pinguicula gigantea keeps groing but looses its leaves and has nearly no roots
What is the problem?
People sell cuttings but I’ve never seen this for pings? I wish this was a thing like a chance to propagate them and have a nice selection to explore, instead you have to purchase a mature plant. Anyone know a seller who sells pulling “packs”??
I’m just curious, how long does it take? Are they like Fly Traps and need up to 5 years to fully mature??
I decided to try making a ping rock. Did I do it right? I used leca at the bottom, a layer of mesh, fluval, then I used dragon stone and wicking rope around the rock. I used distilled water to the rim of fluval. I lost some leaves and would like to prop them. Am I doing that right? Lol I just placed it on top of the stratum. Is that good? Any advice is welcome.
These are supposed to be: Estrellita and Cyclosecta
Hey yall. A couple weeks ago I posted my new ping and well ..... Here she is and I'm a little worried. Her leaves have been dry since I got her and now she honestly looking kind of cooked. Has it been too hot seeing as my air conditioners can't keep up or is something else going on
Lilac lollipop vs. Moranensis var. alba × cyclosecta
Are they pretty much the same? Would you keep them both or sell one to have a more varied collection?
Am I doing something wrong?
Here is my light for reference.
The leaves seem dying. My soil mix has sand. I water with filtered water.
pinguicula kewensis
I want to know if this brand is good, or also the ones you have tried, I'm trying to make a list which ones to trust and which ones not.
If it's on Amazon, much better!
