Get started with Union, Plasma's new theming engine, in 2 minutes or less: a FAQ

What is Union?

Union is Plasma's new theming engine. It is shipped with Plasma 6.7. It makes creating and deploying themes easier for creators, and more consistent and less prone to errors or glitches for users.

I want to create/adapt a theme using Union

How can I enable Union in Plasma 6.7?

Open Settings, go to Colours & Themes > Application Style, scroll down, choose Union and click Apply.

Restart your apps. If you are using the Breeze theme, you should not see any difference, but, trust us: it's working.

IMPORTANT: If you don't see the Union option, that means your distro is probably not shipping it preinstalled. Look for it and install it like any other software using your software manager.

Where can I read about Plasma's new theme engine?

Check out https://api.kde.org

Note that the documentation there is still in a state of flux, and we are waiting for the next run of the doc generation. There's an important part missing at the moment that's already in the repo and will appear on the site shortly.

Where can I go to ask questions?

Visit us on our Matrix channel at #union:kde.org and talk directly to other themers and the devs and designers that created Union.

Caveats

Please note it is still early days for Union. While not exactly beta software, you will find rough edges. We would appreciate you talked things over with the devs in the Matrix room and filed bugs at
