ts5+: very minor DP annoyance, wondering if there's a workaround
I have a TS5+ on a MacBook Pro, and use the displayport (DP) connector on the TS5+ to connect to an old (but nice sized and quite functional) Dell 4k monitor. This part works fine, the monitor is recognized and works.
The minor annoyance is that when the Mac puts everything to sleep, the TS5+ apparently powers down the DP. Waking the Mac powers it back up, but it takes a second or two to negotiate, I guess. If I've not been away from the Mac long enough to require touch-ID-or-password to re-log-in, all the windows that were on the Dell monitor slide over to the MBP display. Then they slide back once everything's up ... but any X11 windows lose their minds about placement. I guess XQuartz doesn't keep track of "this window goes here on display A but over there on display B" the way the native windowing system does.
If I have to re-authenticate, the monitor is "known alive" by that point and everything goes back to where it is supposed to be.
If there were a knob to keep the DP configuration alive, so that MacOS would think the monitor is still there and working, that would solve the problem. (Or of course XQuartz could be improved, but I'm sure that's asking way too much 😄 )
