Sphere around beak

My apologies for these bad quality photos. Camera was on zoom capturing photo through window. Basically I noticed this ruby-throated at my feeder and this nearly perfect sphere around its beak. The pictures don't show clearly, but the shpere isn't at the very end of the beak. I was able to see its tongue come out and fully retract. The sphere itself is even in texture and color and kind of glossy. She hung out at the feeder for a while and successfully had a bunch to drink. She didn't appear to be in respiratory distress. I'm wondering if maybe it impaled something that is caught around its beak and that's what I'm seeing versus a disease process that would require me to take down the feeder. I know these pictures are terrible but what do you guys think?

Rainy weather and feeders —Should they come down for rain?

I've noticed that water definitely gets into the ports, increases overall fluid level and obviously affects dilution scheme for the nectar. So I'm wondering what everybody does when it comes to rain and hummingbird feeders
