I heard a lot of backlash against perceived overproduction in metal, which I am glad for, since I agree. A lot of contemporary metal productions are overproduced: extensive pitch correction, overcompression and brickwalling, intensive quantization and sample replacement, a squeaky clean sound and an overreliance on sample effects (amongst others) result in a production that lacks the grit and soul of heavy metal and sounds more like an overproduced pop record.
Now here is my question: can you give me an example of what you consider to be overproduced, what you consider to be perfect production and what you consider to be underproduced/too lo-fi? Feel free to add the reason you think they’re over or underproduced! I‘ll give you my examples in the comment section.
