PC volume automatically lowers itself
Hi all,
As of this evening, I am having an issue with my PC (Alienware m16 R2) where the volume will just randomly start to lower itself from whatever I set it at to 0. Sometimes it’s almost instantaneous and other times it gradually drops 2 to 4 number at a time til it reaches zero. Even once it reaches zero, the volume visual still pops up, so it’s still trying to lower the volume.
The only change I have made to my setup recently is switched to a Logitech MX Master 4 mouse. This never was an issue til I swapped to this mouse. I even tried swapping back to my old mouse to see if that would stop the issue, but it has not.
I looked up some solutions to the problem and gave them a shot, but none have resolved the problem. These attempted fixes include:
- “resetting” the mouse by unplugging the receiver, turning off the mouse and restarting my computer
- checking my “logi options+” setting to see if something on the mouse was bound to volume adjustments, they are not.
- turning off the “allow applications to take exclusive control of this device” option in the More Sounds Settings playback tab
- checking to see if my audio drivers are up to date, which, as far as I can tell, they are.
I was going to roll back my Realtek audio driver, but the date of the driver is just over a year ago (5/13/2025), so I didn’t think that would have my much effect on things.
I’ve had this PC for about a year and 3 months now and this has never happened until today. I don’t know what else to try.
I also want to pre-empt any suggestion that it is an attenuation setting in Discord or some similar program because I don’t have anything like that installed on my PC. No discord, team speak, ventrilo, zoom or teams.
Hopefully somebody has some ideas that I might be able to try, cause I am at a loss. Any help anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated. If you need any more information, just let me know and I’ll try my best to provide.
Thanks!
