Why does country music sound pronatalist?
I’ll start off with this- If you enjoy country music there’s nothing wrong with that. My problem with it is when at work it’s played on the radio for two weeks at a time and it’s the same songs over and over AND The only topics they seem to sing about make me gag. Maybe I only notice lyrics to these songs because I am very into music and know what I like, but all the songs are about having babies and making someone a wife etc etc.. and every song has very nuclear family/christian undertones. Like is nothing else possible in life? The timeline of a country album is pretty much the life script. We meet at a party and she’s got her daisy dukes on, we marry, we have a baby, and then one of us cheats and we’re sad 🙄 Or they paint marriage and kids as the perfect happy ending. anyone else hate that narrative being pushed on us?
