I just want to express my love for this character !!

I've been rewatching Eastenders from the beginning and I'm currently at 1999, and he is just one of my favourite characters.

Richard Driscoll is a great actor in Eastenders anyway, but I love that they had a religious character, a Vicar, who was completely portrayed as an entirely "normal" human. He had fights with his dad, he had squabbles with his sister Mel, he had moral quandries, he felt and struggled with real feelings and real every day situations. Now, that's not to say Vicars don't have and do all of those things lol, what I mean is, in a lot of TV shows, Eastenders included, the religious types are often portrayed as completely devout (e.g Dot Cotton), or preachy (Sarah, Alistair etc), and the reverends/vicars etc are portrayed as boring, straight laced, do-gooders or if not portrayed as such, at least only have those parts shown in their scenes. Not shown engaging in normal every day life like arguing or being snarky with family etc. Or they go the other way and have them be complete lunatics in one way or another.. Like extremists or cults or.... Lucas. lol.

It's just nice seeing him be a "normal person" I guess lol. (I really wish he and Kathy had got it together properly !! Imagine how different Ben would be lol.)

As I'm writing this, I am realizing that most of what I'm saying applies a lot more to the Christian religion in the show, and I find that interesting also as I'd not noticed that until I was writing it down lol.

I may be completely wrong about everything in this entire post, I only speak from what I can recall. It's just my wee humble opinion lol.

Anyways.... Alex appreciation post !! lol.
