What autocratic systems have in common with domestic violence

This article hit hard in terms of having been raised in a high-control environment. It's taken me a long time to forgive myself for getting into abusive relationships because of my family - but also because of the dark side of the church environment that was supposed to provide love and support but was obsessed with control, isolation, and diminishing my ability to trust my own judgments about people and make my own plans for the future (vs. "get married, have kids, it will all work out if you're faithful!".

I want to trace and document a certain branch of my family tree - or pay someone to help me, or maybe just pay them to do it - but as an inactive church member, I'd rather not get into religious conversations around this. Does anyone have experience hiring someone outside the church with genealogy experience?
