sick beta fish
i’m officially at a loss here and i don’t know what else to do.
backstory:
i’ve had this beta for about 6 months now, he’s my first and i did everything right on initial set up of the tank, eventually introduced a zebra nerite snail into the tank for algae clean up as well as ghost shrimp.
the original ghost shrimp did not work out due to an abnormally large shrimp going after my beta and nipping his fins.
shrimp were removed, nerite snail remained.
a few weeks ago i went and got amano shrimp and introduced them to my tank - unfortunately they did not survive due to my negligence with the water filter in the tank (a mistake i rectified immediately and will not be making again)
i woke up one day and saw my beta eating something large under a log - turned out to be one of the dead shrimp so i fasted fasted him for a few days and did a water change as well because the algae was getting out of control.
after putting my beta back into his tank he has been lethargic, visibly deteriorating, staying at the bottom of his tank.
he will still swim up and around sometimes, like coming up to the top of the tank with some coaching like he’s asking for food still but everything that i’ve read means that this is obviously bad but i can’t pinpoint exactly what is wrong.
i have been constantly testing the water and performing minor water changes every couple of days.
i added aquarium salt to his water because it looked like he was gasping under water, he had red spots that popped up and i read that it could’ve been an ammonia spike in the water that i missed but his water is consistently testing clean.
i bought and did the 3 treatments with KanaPlex, i’ve done tannin baths into his water and he seemed to be doing a little bit better but now he is VISIBLY deteriorating before my eyes and i don’t know what else to do!
he’s my first little guy and i love him and i’m trying so hard to nurse him back to health i’m just at a loss now and genuinely need different opinions because everything is contradicting information and i don’t want to lose him.
the first picture is of him at the end of february and the second picture is today.
