Is this betta fish tank good?
My dad and I have a pet betta fish named Dracula (not necessary info) and we just upgraded his tank to 20 gallons, so I want some advice on if it is good or not.

We got a female betta fish for my son about a year and a half ago. She is in a 3 gallon tank with filter. After reading from this sub I am thinking I need to get her a larger tank with some real plants.
My question is her color. She has gotten much darker which I thought was due to aging. But could there be something wrong? She is still active but enjoys hiding in her little houses I change when I change her water. I have only bought the preconditioned water on the large jugs because it seems to be easiest. But it does cost more.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. She is loved and is 1.5 years old. Just want to give her the healthiest life possible. Please and thank you. I’ve posted just getting her over a year ago to today.
Is this ok setup for betta tank like where the filter and heater is located?
I have a Betta that is 3-4 years old. He lives in a 10gal with the temp usually sitting at 78F. I have anubis and a glass planter suctioned to the top along with a floating Betta bed. I usually would find him close to the water but the past few months he has hung out at the bottom of the tank, often sleeping in the little coconut hut. I assumed he was suffering with swim bladder and ive fasted him off and on but he never seemed to improve much. Ammonia is 0, nitrite is 0, whereas nitrates have been around 40ppm (I live in Iowa where we have a nitrates in our water so I've been switching to using purified rather than treated tap water). Is the nitrate causing him to hang towards the bottom? Is he getting old and just prefers to not swim as much? He doesn't come to the top to eat anymore so he usually eats them off the sand once theyve sunk. I know bettas are fairly food motivated so I hope I havent taught him to search the floor for food all day.🥲
I bought this betta 1 month ago and these were his colors, now it seems that it is losing them, can someone help me understand why this is happening?
I'm so lost she was doing perfectly fine yesterday and when I came back this morning she was laying dead on the ground I tested the water and ammonia, nitrite and nitrate are all 0 and ph is at 6.8. I got her from a very reputable LFS that kept her in a proper set up so I know the fault is mine but I just can't figure what I did wrong. I added new plants 2 days ago that I bought from the same place so maybe I didn't rinse them properly and maybe I contaminated my tank. I feel so bad and I don't know what to do
I think I'm missing a platform near the top of the aquarium where my betta can rest.
I got to betta bed’s personally made for me for my bettas. Now they have been sanded down but i will be putting moss in there to be softer for them just cause im paranoid. But i wanna hear peoples feedback on these especially if you’ve added moss to yours!
Edit: I see your guys concerns and don’t worry there not added in my tanks yet! For the people worried on it leaking toxins in my water this was 3D printed with PLA filament which can be safe for aquariums if you do proper research, use proper pigment and equipment tools, and seal in your hides to stop any bacterial growth. Little holes smaller than these original big ones with be drilled in then moss will be intertwined and glued into the small holes. My bettas are pretty big too but other than that there will be no visible holes! only small holes smaller than 1cm will be visible for proper water flow. :)
Hi my betta fish is doing great very active and eating well however two weeks ago I noticed a small lump on its fin and kept an eye on it while maintaining water quality and adding Indian almond leaves and API Stress Coat, just in case it was an injury. However, its dorsal fin is now retracted; its appetite remains excellent, and it is quite active. I don't know what could be going on—I don't see a cottony texture, but I do see white scales. It has been three weeks, and this is how the situation has progressed. Do you have any idea what might be happening?
Last 3 photos are fron today the first was 2 weeks ago the second one week later
…..and he literally loves it 😂😂😂😂😂 I’m cackling
Miss Mystique is too smart for her own good, like most bettas. She was introduced to some baby corys recently to see how she'd do in a large community tank in the future. Depending on how she does will determine the size of the permanent home. Either a 20 gal long up to a 55 gal sitting empty and beckoning. But here's the problem... I tried to feed the corys at night while she was asleep. But I messed up and gave them a small wafer they didn't have finished off into the next day so she chowed down and was a partly green guppy for a full day and change. I let her burn it off and decided to go with the sinking pellets that are smaller from my Micro Mix.
So, I wait until she's asleep and feed them and it works for a few days. Then one night, she wakes up while I'm doing it. And now? 😮💨 She won't go to sleep until I'm in bed asleep. Two observations was all it took for her to understand the routine, little genius.
I tried waiting her out a few times but she just won't go to bed because she knows what I'm doing. If I'm up, she's up. So, I tried blacking out the room and sneaking in when she finally appeared to be asleep. It was after 1am. (I'm over here doing the toddler room crawl... if ya know ya know.) She appeared to be, so I snuck close and dropped 2 instead of 3 just incase. Girl popped to life and came right over! She knew I was coming and was on screensaver mode. The corys were going to town then she shows up and crashes the party. Even when they're on opposite sides she'll go to whatever one they're eating. She doesn't follow the food. She follows them. So I removed one since they would just go back and forth and went to grab the other but the ramshorn had it.
Unless I'm in bed with my eyes closed, she isn't going down. If I move, she's up. 😂 She digests the balls much faster. I imagine there's less fiber in them. This video was her at 2am. I'll post a pic in the comments of what she looks like right now in all her glory. 🙄 Sorry, I talk to my fish like they're dogs so don't mind me... lmao
Recommendations from cohabers please?
I've had him for 2 months now, he was my second betta i now have 4. His name is Blackbeard, and the store told me he was a cellophane betta. I thought that meant he was going to stay all white and translucent forever. But now he's started growing like patches of black from the base of his fins and tail. All along his spine, he's started to get speckels of red too. Can someone explain what happened to him? Is this from stress, or is he not cellophane? Is he going to continue to develop more color?
Hey guys,
So this is Van Gogh and I have a question - again. He's my chronic fin nipper that somehow has been going strong for almost a year now, even though I was sure his nipping habits would lead to a bacterial infection one day.
I already made a post about his "blindness" - I've been feeding him frozen food, because he lost the ability to find pellets and has to be fed with tweezers.
Lately I've started noticing his left eye - it looks red inside and nope, this picture wasn't taken with a flash. It can be seen in the daylight. It's almost like - there is no eye inside? Is there a condition that could cause it?
He started very slightly pineconing 2 weeks ago and I immediately put him in a hospital tank and used Sulfaplex. I have done over 10 salt baths now as well but unfortunately the pine coning is now all over his body, head down.
The nitrites in his hospital tank were spiked for 3 days so I decided to move him back into his main tank
It’s now been 3 days since he’s been in his main tank but whats confusing about this is that his belly isnt swollen like most betta with dropsy
I know he’s going to pass - I’m desperate to bring him back to health but he’s been having so much trouble staying up, and now his breathing is heavier :(
I feel like he’s suffering but every euthanasia method has been proven to cause pain and I can’t bring myself to do them.
Hi, I’m not sure what this is and it’s got me really concerned. It wasn’t there yesterday, what is it? what do I need to do? Please help.

My first 10 gallon tank and I'm hoping to learn some new things. Any tips and tricks are appreciated 👍😺
Are these roots growing out of the leaves of my Anubias? I saw a post about hydra and now I am paranoid. If I pull on them they stay attached and they are getting longer.
Got my betta yesterday from the fish shop, he’s got slight white bits on the end of his fins? I’m just wondering if he looks healthy or if he has finrot or bacterial infection?? I have bought some finrot treatment just incase??
I noticed my betta fish, Valkyrie, got popeye a couple weeks ago and started medicating the tank. Then I noticed he had fin rot and read on this sub to do a 25% water change every day and medicate according to the directions of the medication so I did that. Yesterday was day 10. Valkyrie's popeye didn't get any worse but his fin rot got expontentially worse on day 8, even with the daily water changes and medication. He developed dropsey on day 9 and passed the next day, yesterday. I lost one of my pygmy corys this morning and am wondering what in the world is going on.
I will be buying a water testing kit tomorrow and see what the water parameters are, but what do I need to be looking for? I had 6 pygmy corys before Valkyrie's sickness and now I only have 3. Even with the cleaner water and meds, something is killing my fish. This is a 5 gallon tank with driftwood and living plants in my tanks only (i dont have any fakes). What am I doing wrong? How can I heal my tank?
