I am officially done with the betta group! (Ty for having me)

I am officially done with the betta group! (Ty for having me)

I’m giving away my bettas to a small aquarium shop and agreed to take them in for me.

My ocd and anxiety are getting so bad I just can’t take it. I missed a water change and luckies fins got clamped up again :(.

I plan on dropping them off today which is really sad but I know it’s for the better as someone can provide better care for them.

It was interesting but at the same time stressful lol 😂 thank you for having me toodles!

Does my betta look overweight?

He eats twice a day, flakes in the morning and now maybe two pellets in the evening.

Fell in love with this cute PKHM Yellow Koi. Help us name her! 🥰

I wasn't planning on another Betta, but I couldn't stop thinking about her after seeing how friendly she was in the shops community tank yesterday.

Our other Bettas are named Nibbles and Dice. The kids are currently pulling for Sprinkles, but I'd love to hear some other ideas that fit the crew before we make it official!

She will likely get brighter, darker, and more pronounced markings as she ages.

Throw me your suggestions! 🥰

Is my beta tank reflective?

He seems pretty agitated and flaring against the front. Should i get a light for right outside of the tank to prevent reflection?

Ever find the prettiest betta…

..but you don’t even have a tank set up yet? 😭

Any suggestions on a quick and dirty way to set up a temporary tank while getting the real tank ready?

Can bettas ( and other aquatic animals) get Lyme’s?

A wild question. I live in Wisconsin where we are having one of the worst years for ticks. I live near the woods so, having a tick on us when we come in the house isn’t uncommon. And since we have dogs, finding them crawling around isn’t an uncommon experience either. Today, I was looking at my fish tank and saw a tick at the bottom. I have plants sticking out the top, so I am assuming it crawled in. But this got me wondering if this is something that can happen?

My second Betta as a 13 yr old

I think it is a good aquarium but let me know and if you want to know why I put those plants floating there it's because he sleeps on them

3 weeks of TLC

I'm in shock by how different Bomi looks after 3 weeks out of his cup at the store. I knew their colors would change but I didn't realize he'd become so big and vibrant so quickly. I didn't realize at the time but I think he was quite young when I rescued him. I passed by some Bettas in another store and they were much larger. He's recently started sleeping on his leaf hammock every night instead of hiding behind a rock and made his first bubble nest. He is my first fish and it's been so beautiful to see him grow and thrive and to know that I've created a healthy and safe environment for him to live in.

We just got this guy and noticed he has a white patch on his head. Is this normal or something more?

Help

I got a female Betta on the 9th May after properly cycling my tank for about a month and she was really active and colourful and eating well by the second day, on the 17th I did a 45ish% water change (including a gravel vac) I used a wide paint brush to brush the plants and other surfaces of excess debris beforehand (I soaked the paintbrush in boiling water for 20 minutes first) I used tap conditioner for the new water and tested the levels an hour later and everything was fine but the next day she wouldn’t eat and was lying in the floaters, I just thought she was tired and tried again the next day but it was the same thing, she was lying in different spots each time I checked on her, at the surface and further down in the tank so it wasn’t a mobility issue but this morning I went she check on her and she had passed away, I tested the levels again and they are fine but I’m not sure what happened?

Notes:
- 40 litre tank
- heater at 28 degrees Celsius
- Only plants and driftwood for decor (edit: Betta log as well)
- Fed fluval bug bites tropical granules
- Some kind of snails in the tank I assume hitchhiked on the plants or in the bag when I purchased her

POV u gave ur betta too many brine shrimp and now he’s a chonker

and before everyone jumps on me don’t worry i’ll be fasting him for 2-3 days (or more if necessary) and feed him mostly live daphnia. he doesn’t look this ROTUND very often 😂

also he is a rescue hence the messed-up fins (poor guy was attacked by another male at the pet store…i know. ridiculous.)

names beginning with B

usually i’ve been able to come up with fun and cute names for my water pups but this dumbo has me so lost and confused about what i will name him - i was giving myself a headache trying to think
Banksy (bc he looks like artwork)
or Biscuit (doesn’t suit his colouring)
any suggestions are welcome but they do need to begin with the letter B to match all my pet names 💞
thank you fish friends
my other bettas are named Bluey, Bottega & Braska

thank you for your suggestions everybody!
typical girlie asking for ideas and then going with NONE of them 😂
i have chosen to name him Bijou 🫧💎
(meaning jewel/gem in french) 💞

Really small/bad “tank” situation at nail salon near me

Hi Reddit. I was at a nail salon near my house today and was shocked and upset to see they are keeping a betta fish in this “tank” by the front counter. I don’t keep fish myself, but I know this isn’t even remotely a suitable situation for this fish, and I love all animals so it really upset me to see. I’m not even sure if they’re feeding it or if they’re just planning on keeping it there until it dies? I was torn about saying something to them in the moment because I was afraid they wouldn’t take well to it. I considered maybe thinking about a better way to approach things that would yield a better result. I’m not a confrontational person at all, so it was tough. Also, with it being a nail salon there’s kind of a language barrier issue too. But I just keep thinking about it and it makes me really sad. Idk what to do… Anyone have any insight?

Terrifying fighting fish doubles in width to protect its territory. This picture is not the slightest bit cute in any way, shape or form. It is terrifying. You have been warned.

This is Kyle, if you don't remember him from previous posts. I'm not sure what you did to make him mad, but you should apologize.

My 20 gallon before vs after for betta

People recommended to fully fill it up. But it already looks so nice. So I don’t know what to do. I might buy more sand to extend and elevate the little island. And question. Will my betta get stuck under the log here?? I’ll add some more plants too obviously. I’m slowly getting it all going ahah

I purchased this betta as a male?

But the more I see folks post pics of bettas, I am wondering, if my him is a her?

I assumed he wasn't so full of fins because perhaps he was young? Or stuck in a tiny tank prior to reaching me...

He also has face ruffles that pop out when he gets angry. And he? gets very upset if there is any other fish in his tank.

Also you can see in the pics, one of his eyes looks like an eye, but the other eye is blacker than black. Looks like an empty abyss, but when he is looking straight at you you can see the dome of the black eye so it isnt missing and if I happen to shine a light there is something shiny deep inside the black eye.

What is up with that?

Meet my new pink boy

This is Étienne! I have been online looking for a pink betta for a while. Between the super expensive fish from crummy sellers, and the fish that sell out the literal second they’re posted (looking at you Tucky) I’ve been pretty disappointed in my options.

I hesitated to get another Halfmoon because they struggle so much to swim with the amount of fin they have. I previously had a giant purple dumbo plakat that somehow managed to jump out of the tank (even with a lid and spacer clips), and ended up passing away, so for this particular shallow tank I didn’t really want a another plakat. (I have my other plakat in a deeper tank.) I figured I’d try my local shops again before deciding on an online purchase, and I found this gorgeous pink Veiltail at PetSmart for $3.99!
