the fish that i got during my battle with cancer developed a tumor. i’m really sad.

my sweet boy mr.pinky has developed a very large tumor.
(first three pics are today and last three pics are the week that i got him)
he had a really bad case of fin rot due to one of the lava rocks in his tank tearing it off (lava rocks have since been removed) and he got salt baths 3 times a week for almost a month. he has since improved tremendously and no longer gets salt baths.
a month after his fin rot episode, he started to develop a small tumor but his tumor has developed so fast and it has gotten quite big. i also notice that his colors have faded a bit.
he is eating normally, very active, and always greets me when he sees me.
I have had mr.pinky since march of this year. he means so much to me.
could the tumor be the cause of the lack of his vibrancy? what can i do to make him more comfortable? will he be okay?

I’m 23 and haven’t seen Bella Sara in literal centuries… my mom just casually handed me these and walked away. SHE’S BEEN KEEPING THEM SINCE 2012 😭

i have no idea why she waited this long.

so i get punished if a client decides to not book me immediately?!

i don’t understand why i don’t show up on the search if a client still has me kept as a request and hasn’t fully booked yet. i’d understand a client would commit to booking after a meet and greet has been done, but now other pet owners can’t find me until the client books????
This makes no sense.

Emailed rover’s ceo and rover’s entire executive team

I finally hit my breaking point.
After nearly two months of getting bounced around by support, being told to “wait another 3–5 business days,” and finding out from First Advantage that Rover never even submitted the background check I paid for, I emailed Rover’s CEO and the entire executive leadership team.
I’m beyond frustrated. I paid around $50 for a background check that, according to the company that performs them, was never even initiated. Yet Rover won’t resubmit it, won’t refund me, and just keeps telling me to wait.
I’ve tried to be patient, but at some point enough is enough. Paying for a service that was never provided is unacceptable.
I’ll update everyone if I actually hear back.

Rover took my $70 background check fee over a month ago… and they never even submitted my background check

I’m honestly at a loss and wanted to see if anyone else has dealt with this.
I created my Rover sitter account during the first week of June. I completed my entire profile and paid the expensive background check fee. Rover says background checks usually take 3–5 days, so I expected to be approved within a week.
Instead… it’s been over a month, and my account is still pending.
After two weeks, I contacted Rover Support. That was an ordeal by itself. The AI chatbot kept refusing to connect me to a real person, and when I finally did get a human, the AI would randomly interrupt the conversation or even close the chat while I was still talking.
Eventually, a representative told me to contact First Advantage, the company that processes Rover’s background checks.
So I did.
First Advantage told me they never received anything from Rover. They couldn’t find my email, my information, or any background check request at all. According to them, Rover had never submitted it.
I went back to Rover and explained exactly what First Advantage told me.
Their response?
“We’ll escalate this to our upper team.”
I was told I’d hear back in 5–10 business days.
Nothing happened.
I made a post here on Reddit asking for advice, and someone suggested calling Rover’s emergency support line. I felt weird doing that since it obviously wasn’t an emergency, but they pointed out that the recording literally says to stay on the line even if it isn’t an emergency.
The representative (John) was actually really helpful. He apologized, said this almost never happens, thought it was probably a system glitch, and said he’d mark it as urgent. He told me I should receive an update within 24–48 hours, and if not, to call back.
Well… 48 hours came and went.
I called again today.
This time I was told they’re experiencing a high volume of issues because it’s a busy season and that I should expect another response in 3–5 business days.
At that point I told them, as politely as I could, that I’ve been incredibly patient, but I’m honestly very disappointed. I paid $70 for a background check that hasn’t even been submitted, and every time I contact support I’m told to “rest assured” and wait longer.
The worst part is I start university next month, and I wanted to use Rover as a flexible source of income while I’m in school. This entire delay has prevented me from getting started.
I also asked if they could simply resubmit the background check.
They said no.
I asked about a refund.
Apparently they don’t issue refunds.
Someone on my previous Reddit post contacted me and said they disputed the charge with their bank. They claimed Rover sent them an email saying their account could be banned if they didn’t reverse the dispute. They replied that they didn’t care anymore… and then, magically, their background check was processed shortly afterward.
I don’t know whether that’s true, but at this point I’m beyond frustrated.
Has anyone else experienced this?
Is there another department I should contact?
Has anyone successfully gotten Rover to fix something like this?
Should I keep calling?
Has anyone actually emailed Rover’s CEO or another executive and gotten a response?
I genuinely wanted to work through Rover, but this has been one of the most frustrating customer support experiences I’ve ever had.

my mom’s pea puffer tank is plagued

No matter what we both do…..we can’t get rid of this algae!!!
My mom has six pea puffers and one hillstream loach in this tank. She feeds the pea puffers blood worms (a super small piece).
Water parameters are perfect (0 nitrites, 0 nitrates, 0 ammonia).
The tank is never in direct sunlight and we use a hygger light that has an 8hr day cycle.
We’ve done everything we could but this algae just never stops. none of our other tanks do this (we have three other tanks in our house).
What the hell is going on ?????

I’m a pet sitter and I got asked to pet sit a fish.

I offered them advice and they said “well i just want the fish kept alive for 7 days while im gone”
🫠🫠🫠 who’s gonna tell em their fish probably won’t even live for 2.
(they wanted me to take care of the fish in MY home)

i’m at my wits end and don’t know what to do

Hi, I’m a pre-veterinary student. I just recently beat cancer and due to now being immunocompromised, doctors advised me to stay away from pet hospitals to not expose myself to zoonotic diseases. So, I have been doing pet sitting for neighbors and close friends in my area, I thought I might as well sign up on rover.

I paid for the background check, completed all parts of my profile…

3 weeks has gone by and I have recieved no update on the status of my background check, no email (yes, even in spam) from First advantage, I even contacted first advantage myself and they said they could not locate my rover account despite giving them my full first and last name as well as email and even the last four digits of my ssn.
I’ve contacted rover support numerous times and they have not been helpful at all because their support interface is shit, and their “human” support team takes 30+mins to respond and by that time the page refreshes and the chat is gone.
I’m just at my wits end and I don’t know what to do. I can’t even get a refund.
University starts in august and I was just hoping I could make some extra money to pay off some more medical debt I have.

extremely hormonal conure

i’m really at my wits end when it comes to my bird’s “horniness”.
I have been completely rearranging her cage, giving her less sugar (less fruits and treats), making her sleep for at least 8-10hrs a night, making her fly and giving her exercise as well as mental stimulation and lots of foraging toys in her cage…yet she still is very hormonal.
she will be 9yrs old in september and has never laid an egg and we don’t ever pet her back and only touch her on the head.
she’s not showing any aggression besides being territorial of her cage (which she has always been), but she will do this constant squealing noise for sometimes 5-10mins at a time, unprompted.
Is this something I should get my vet involved with? this summer has been pretty bad with her hormones but this squealing thing she will do lasts all year, yet this summer it’s far more often…

My super sweet conure went completely feral at 1:30 AM and woke my entire family up.

Last night I woke up around 1:30 AM because I heard my green cheek conure LOUDLY CHEWING and destroying the wood in her foraging box at the bottom of her cage (foraging box second slide before being destroyed). I went downstairs thinking I’d tell her to knock it off, but the second I approached she acted like a completely different bird.
She became extremely territorial, lunged at me, made noises I’ve never heard before (deep throaty squawk, making herself look bigger) and acted like she genuinely didn’t recognize me. The closest thing I can compare it to is those breeding birds that become super protective of a nest box with their eggs.
I thought maybe the foraging box was triggering the behavior, so I removed it. She was still aggressive and unpredictable, so I turned on a light and she calmed down a little. I tried getting her to step up using a perch since I didn’t trust putting my hand near her, but she refused and wouldn’t even move even when i shoved her with the perch, and she even got hormonal over the shoving!
Eventually I gave up and just sat there quietly. After a few minutes she suddenly walked out of her cage, stepped right onto my hand, started talking in her normal sweet little voice, accepted head scratches, and acted like absolutely nothing had happened. I put her back on a perch at the highest point of her cage, covered her cage, and she immediately went to sleep.
The whole thing has me really freaked out because I’ve never seen her behave like that. Now I’m wondering if she’s been doing this with the foraging box every night while I’ve been asleep and I just never knew.
My concern is that she might be getting hormonal or trying to treat the foraging box like a nest. Should I:
Remove the foraging box permanently?
Rearrange her cage so it feels like a “new” environment?
Remove shreddable toys for a while?
Increase her calcium in case she’s getting ready to lay an egg? (she has never laid an egg before and she is going to be 9yrs old in september)
Schedule a vet appointment?
Has anyone else’s female conure done this??
It was honestly shocking to see such a dramatic personality change almost instantly, especially at 1:30am which she is never awake at. For extra context, she is on a vegetable and pellet diet with the occasional fruit, she is fully flighted, my family and i NEVER touch past her head, and she does not have a “hut” in her cage.

are these tumors or ick?!

i’m leaning more towards tumors. poor mr pinky had fin rot and now it is healing great after adding tannins and giving him a few salt baths…but now i’ve noticed this :( water parameters are perfect but im really sad about this. i just want to confirm that these are tumors and not ick. is there any way to treat this?

fin rot getting worse and worse on my betta :(

two weeks ago i noticed fin rot on my betta and removed all sharp objects in the tank. i left for vacation for just five days (somebody fed him don’t worry) and i come back and his tail looks even worse.
I changed the filter in the tank and added tannins/catappa leaves.
added pics from today -> last week -> one month ago. also added pics of water parameters as well.
i just don’t know why it’s getting worse and worse :/ i haven’t seen him self mutilating his tail either despite the long hours i watch him in his tank. i just don’t know what to do :(
