So, as I posted here before, Baby had her cage open and something startled her, causing her to fly. Unfortunately, she landed in a cast iron skillet I had preheating, but she flew out immediately. She didn’t make any sound of pain and had no obvious signs of injury beyond a slight pinkness on the bottom of her foot. I thought she came away relatively unscathed and was relieved.

Fast forward a week and she had a mark on her foot where she obviously got burned. It was hard to tell if it was a scab forming or a blister, and I got worried about it getting infected and how she could be affected by it. I called one of two vets in my area that treat birds and got an appointment.

Vet told me everything looks great on her. She is perfectly healthy and no signs of infection. At this point, it is raw skin that is now forming into a scar. There is no open wound, but he still gave me preventative measures to make sure she continues to be okay. He prescribed me two antibiotics, one for oral administration and one topical, to give to her for the next 7-10 days. He said it should hopefully be fully healed within the next week or two. She will have some scar tissue on the bottom of her foot and will have a little weird spot forever.

He and the nurse said multiple times about how cute and beautiful she is. I know I might be biased but I have to agree! I am just relieved that I know she is okay. It’s so much better to just have peace of mind. I know she’s gonna be a pain when I give her the medicine, but that’s the way it goes. I love my Baby and would do anything for her.

She was gonna eat when she went to her cage but I grabbed her food bowl to change it out for some fresh food. Came back to her scratching her head in the pictures above. She is still scratching as I type this.

I need tips for nail trim

I have my little conure for 5 years now and never cut his nails. I would prefer to see a vet but there is no vet for birds around. I’ve see that a lot of people are doing themself and so I want to learn to do it myself. But as I tried to cut his nails (he trust me so much I can grab is legs and but the nail clipper on his nail is not reacting, but as I clip it (being careful to not touch the vein, cutting the less I could) when I close the nail clipper it didn’t cut the nail and just hurt him. I’m doing it wrong and I’ve accidentally hurt my baby… I have several questions. What’s the best tools to do that ? Can it become infected if I do it wrong ? I need advice…

Budgie vomiting after ornithosis treatment - advice needed

My budgie started treatment for ornithosis/psittacosis. After the medications, he began vomiting and his droppings became very bright/acid yellow.

We stopped the antibiotic and took him to the vet today. A vet gave him 3 injections for vomiting and some vitamins, but it is now evening and he is still vomiting after eating. He is sleepy, keeps closing his eyes, and does not want to drink Ringer’s solution on his own.

Could this be a reaction to the antibiotic or other meds?

Our threatment:

  • Unidox Solutab 100 mg — tablet dissolved in water, given 0.06 ml twice daily every 12 hours.
  • Nystatin tablet — mixed with water and Duphalac, given 0.08 ml twice daily.
  • Ukrliv suspension — given 0.07 ml twice daily.
  • Heptral 500 mg/5 ml — prepared from powder + solvent, divided into insulin syringes and frozen, given thawed 0.2 ml twice daily.
  • Engystol + Echinacea + Engystol + Berberis — mixed together in one syringe, given 0.12–0.15 ml once daily.

We had just started the treatment for ornithosis/psittacosis.

We gave all the prescribed medications for one full day. Then, at the beginning of the next day, after the third dose/third administration, he started vomiting/regurgitating. Since then, he has been vomiting after eating, has very bright yellow droppings, is sleepy, and keeps closing his eyes

The avian vet told us that he has never seen a bird react like this to these medications before. He thinks it's possible that our budgie may have been poisoned by something else, rather than the medications.

I'm honestly not sure what to do anymore because he doesn't seem to be getting any better. He is still very sleepy, sits quietly in one corner with his eyes closed most of the time, and every time he eats, he starts vomiting shortly afterward.

I don't know what to do...

Goose wanted to help keep my tension right

I was crocheting and I usually hold the yarn in my left hand and he hopped across the couch back and perched on the side to hold the yarn and let it run through his beak

Escaping little ****

Hi, apologies for the title, were currently in teenage conure hell and our little bastard has learnt to pull on the bars to open windows, these do not lock and are inward opening so regular nets wont work. we've only just managed to get the fucker back and very narrowly at that, he sits outside the house watching us and refusing to come in. I dont know what i did in a past life to deserve this little dickwad but any advice on how to bird proof these would be great. Ps here is a picture of the little sod for your pleasure.

Cage aversion

My sun conure has recently become VERY upset with me putting her inside her cage, to the point I have to catch her with my hands to put her to bed. Last night I caught her and put her in, and she was upset with me for a while afterwards before going back to normal. Tonight I had to catch her again (I’m always very gentle and careful not to put pressure on her body) and I’m worried she won’t forgive me this time. I don’t want to break her trust, please help.

Recommendation? Nail Trimmer

Dude hates getting his nails trimmed. I’ve tried kids scissors, nail clippers and nail files. Dremel is an absolute freak fest.

Any recommendations on a quiet bird specific device?

TIA

Why does she keep doing this?

For context, I recently moved, and this is my new room. My bird (Arlo) keeps flying from my computer to my chair, doing that movement with her wings, and squawking/screaming whenever I let them out. Is she just still adjusting? My other conure is much more chill, Arlo is doing all the screaming, both in and out of the cage. Is there anything I can do to get her to not yell so much/make her more comfortable?

Welcome Home, Margo 🦜

We brought this 4 month old beauty home today. She immediately settled in, explored her new cage, clicking and grinding her beak, making happy chirps. We’re all head over heels ❤️

My GCC is trying to feed me

So I my conure, ziggy, is about 4 or 5 months old and I've had her for maybe a little over a month. She seems pretty bonded to me already, I've gotten some pin feathers out of her head and she hides in my hair and my shirt and sleeps there sometimes.

Recently, shes been bobbing her head to regurgitate her food whenever I pet her head with my fingers. This is happened multiple times, but only started maybe a week or so ago.

I would also like to mention that my mother got a baby budgie around the same time this started happening, which I think is part of the issue. She has also tried to feed the new budgie several times.

Is there anything I can do? I wish I could get her a real friend but that's not an option for me. Is it the baby budgie that is causing this?

Prince has passed away 😭

You will forever have a place in my heart. You were the first one to greet me in the morning , often peeking under the blankets that I covered the cage with. When I came home from work , you were the first one to perch on my shoulder. I only posted her 9 days ago and I was so proud of her cute singing.

I have 3 more conures that were with her together in a cage , and 2 conures separate, aswell as 2 lovebirds. They are sounding out for her and it hasn't even been a few hours since she passed.

Prince, you were my first bird. You were the voice of the house. As my mother said , you were a unique bird and there will never be one like you again. I will hug Jim Jim, Kiwi & Mango extra tight for you my girl and I am sorry I let you down.

I genuinely did my best for these birds and my good intentions of lying down for a few minutes before I put her in cage has led to her losing her life. Please be careful guys.

Please can anybody that has been through same provide some tips how to deal with this my heart is in a billion pieces right now.

RIP 😭💔

Birdy bruise or worst?

So I woke up this morning and took my little nugget out of her cage as yesterday I wasn’t feeling well so she couldn’t come out and noticed she had this large discoloured spot on her beak.

Ever since she was a baby she has had some sort of peeling going on but the vet says she’s okay as she files it for her during her checkups but that dark spot is new.

Is this a bruise or is it something worst? She is known to be quite clumsy but I just want to make sure

Thanks
