Living alone in London on a 50k salary, just started working
Hey, I’m 24F (25 this year). I’m about to finish my first year of working in the UK.
Previously, I worked only for a bit (1yr internship + barely 6 months full time + study again). Obviously not much that I could save with my home currency. So, this is the first time that I’m earning a considerable amount of money.
I started last year on a 50K annual salary and about to get promoted this year, which will increase to about 60k/annum. My savings now is around 35k
Basically what I want is:
To be able to live by myself on a 1-bed flat. I can’t do studio as I will get mentally too distressed.
I’m currently living with a flatmate so I spend 1200/month. But as I mentioned, I wanna have my living room and work station to myself.
My partner can potentially live with me in the new 1-bed flat (still a plan for now), but it’s too unstable. So I think if I really wanna do it, I should be able to afford the whole property so when she goes back home country - I don’t need to move etc etc.
With my current 3200/mo take home, here’s how I spend it:
- 1200 on rent (incl everything)
- 800-900 (transports, groceries, socials)
- ~1200 goes straight to ISA or smth else
Ideally with the new salary it’d be around 3750. 550 more. But the thing is I’m stingy, idk, I have problems with spending money bcs it’s where I put my safety on - but I know I want my own place etc. and I still wanna be able to save more than I do today.
Should I proceed with the 1-bed flat plan? Can I even afford it in London or should I move somewhere else (I can work remotely)? Am I asking too much to save more and to live in a 1-bed flat myself😭
