Sweet tomato heel

I’ve knit a couple pair of toe-up socks with the sweet tomato heel. They all seem to be too short or too long because I haven’t figured out where to start the heel. Is there a measurement I can use to get this right.

Porch construction

After having a gnawing groundhog removed by a licensed trapper we are wondering how this porch was constructed. The block foundation of the house isn’t under there but the porch supports the upstairs bedroom.
