Come on fellow Freighters

Went to get my free bucket today, needed a telescoping mirror to help fish some romex into a wall. The front of the Chula Vista store was in this condition, just trash everywhere from people leaving product boxes to just general garbage. Idk why so many people think it’s acceptable to do this, and it’s even worse that the HF employees have to waste their time cleaning up other people’s shit instead of organizing and restocking the store. If you see people leaving shit like this, shame them at the very least.

I bought my 2020 KonaEV Ultimate back in March of that year. I used to work as a catering chef in San Diego and the company I worked for actually catered the Kona reveal party in 2018 (I think) and two years later I decided to get the model because I like the styling and it was decently cheaper than a Tesla.

Initially I was going to be a lightly used car from Carvana but I figured I would go to a dealership to see how much the price difference would be. A young salesman came up to me and started doing his dealership tactics, but I shut him down pretty quick and honestly was kind of an asshole to cut through the negotiating back and forth mostly because a couple years ago I got took for a ride buying a new Mazda CX5.

I was pretty convinced that I was going to buy through Carvana but the sales manager convinced me that buying new would be better to have the warranty cover anything that would happen. So they did hook me with that but I was still trying to play hard ball, eventually I got a 5-year 0% loan for $633 a month. And now this month I’ve finally paid off my car and am so excited to have an extra $600 in my bank account every month.

Currently I have almost 92,000 miles on it, had to get 1 new 12v battery, replace a broken drivers seat ventilation unit, and currently the switch to change the cruising speed is broken but haven’t tried to get it fixed under warranty yet. I’ve only completely ran out of battery once only .25 miles from my house which I was lucky enough to coast back into my driveway. For most of the five years I’ve been level 2 charging to 80% and had 216 miles-max range, but a couple weeks ago I figured I’d just go to the full 100% and the max range actually boosted up to 221 miles.

All in all, I think I won’t get another Hyundai for my next car but definitely it will be another EV (hopefully with another federal rebate program in place by then…). I’ve had the Slate truck reserved for a year so might be leaning towards getting that in a few years once my Kona starts feeling old. But with the recent gas prices, driving my KonaEV makes me feel soo satisfied with my purchase every time I plug it in to charge.

Just got home from a closing-time Costco run, and I love Grillo pickles and saw them on sale so I excitedly bought two jars. When I was getting rung up at checkout I noticed the discount didn’t pop up under the price like usual, so I casually had the return desk check the price for me and they told me there was no sale it’s full price at $5.99. Then she mentioned maybe I got confused and thought a different pickle or item next to it was on sale, I felt like I was starting to lose my mind because I distinctly remembered the whole excitement.

So I went on my way, put everything in my car and have been REALLY craving a soft serve ice cream for a couple weeks so with 10 minutes before they closed I walked back to get the ice cream but the price thing was nagging me so I ran back inside to see for myself, and bam there was the sale winking at me! Now kind of in a justified defiance I went back to the return desk lady and asked for the price difference, which she passed me on to a supervisor near the checkout area.

Again I told them the situation and she didn’t believe me either after checking the system, I told her to go check it out for herself and showed her the picture. She then was trying to convince me it was a different pickle I bought because the item numbers were different, I doubled down and eventually she gave me back the difference but only for one, and not both pickles. She then said she could only give me back the money for one so accept that or I could talk with the manager.. (it was past closing at this point, 8:35pm) I said okay, I’ll talk to the manager. She then slammed her till closed and stormed off, coming back a few minutes later without even saying anything to me and then gave me back the money for the other pickle. The manager off behind her writing something down with the sign from the aisle with him..

Now 9 times out of 10 I wouldn’t even bother with a conflict like this because I prefer to just get my things and go.. but it how they made me feel like I was losing my mind saying I was wrong compounded with the fact that they just advertised a false higher price to the customers the entire day and I had to argue to get the money back for something priced wrong. Who knows if they would have ever changed the price the whole week if I hadn’t spoke out about it. It may have only been $1.10 back for me, but Costco would have made at least an extra $100 bucks from the price difference and it’s Grillo making the discount not even Costco so both the consumer AND the manufacturer are getting screwed.

I type all of this to say, be mindful while your shopping especially when there’s a sale or marked down price and keep an eye on the card reader to see all the prices and discounts are reflected while they’re checking you out. PLEASE stand up and fight for yourself and your fellow shoppers when you notice some discrepancy too; Costco makes billions of dollars every year, they don’t need donations from their customers because they’re too lazy or scared to speak up. I still love shopping at Costco, but all corporations need to be checked from screwing us over!

TL:DR
Item was posted wrong all day and supervisor didn’t believe me, argued for 10 minutes to give me back $1.10 after she her bluff failed. Mind is still sharp, not losing it..yet 😅
